Hey guys.

I live in Denver and so far my G1 has been great. But since the phone updated to RC30 two days ago, I cannot get any data connection.

I can still call and send text messages but I canno access maps or the web... which I use alot!

What happens is... I dont have any data connection and then I restart my phone and it will say I have 3G (once it said Edge). Then I will open my browser of my maps app. and the icon at the top goes away and it says connection lost.

I checked my settings and everything seems ok. What could be happening?

I will try and call T-Mobile after work.

Check your Signal Strength in Phone Status. It sounds like you are in really low coverage. If you try to transfer data and there is too much packet loss, the network will drop you. Look at the Signal Strength, anything less than about 5 ASU/ -103dBm will usually result in dropped connections on most phones.

Thanks for the reply. It is definitly not because I am in low coverage zone. I had full bars.

Ill have to check next time it happens. Wouldnt you know it... Right after I posted this topic, I restarted my phone (again) and it has been flawless ever since.

Anywho, thanks again for the reply!

I had the same problem. I live in Denver as well and randomly my 3G/edge connection will disappear. Denver is in a low coverage zone. I just talked to T-Mobile and they just put 3G to Denver on the 11th. They are working out the problems. 3G is only good in the metro area. After that its Edge. So all I do is restart the phone and I get my connection again.

Thanks! It seems to be pretty random for me. It actually happened again since my last post. Oh well, I will just restart it... again.

So I called T-Mobile's tech support for pda's (1-877-816-8601) and they never heard of this problem in Denver. They changed out my sim card since it was 5 years old and I haven't lost my connection yet. Though i hold my tongue. But try that, it should help. The 3G network was created on the 11th, so they are trying to work everything out. We will see what happens.

I just got my friends G1 yesterday and when i first put my SIM card in it didnt work, I finally got it to work, but the network wasnt connecting. I have been having the same problem. I have tried turning the phone off and on but it only gives me 3g or edge coverage for a couple minutes up to a couple hours and then it loses connection again. Did you ever figure out what was wrong with it or has it been working? any hope for me because i would really like to start using my G1. Oh and i got a new SIM card too but they said it could take anywhere from 2 minutes to 2 hours to start working... so hopefully it does work... if not, any advice?
