Guys,
Just got Droid X. Have not yet found a solution that allows me to sync my X with my MS Outlook (Contacts, Notes, Calendar, etc.)
I've tried companion link, the missing sync, etc....to be honest none of them work. FOr the 40 bucks they want, they are antiquated, over complicated, and you wont believe the hoops you have to jump through to basically end up with a half baked sync...lots of bugs and issues with both. Im a Product Manager at a software company, so I'm fairly technical. Stay away from both of these "solutions"
Anybody have any other real suggestions? (Other than ditching Outlook and dumping everything into Goolge's Gmail? (Gmail is a piece of dung btw - try having a multi topic discussion amongst multiple people and making any sense of it later when everything in Gmail is collapsed...not gonna happen)
Thanks all!

Have you looked into applications as an option?
The Free MIQ application is a good way to import contacts onto your phone, as well as backup all your phone data. You just download the app on your phone and all your data will backup to a private web account. When you log in online you can add contacts manually that will push immediately to your phone or you can import them from other places, such as Outlook... It serves as a good safe place to keep all your information backed up in case you lose your phone as well, then you just download the app on a new phone and get all your info back.
Pretty Awesome! Hope that helps.

When you say outlook, do you mean outlook as a stand alone client or as part of an Exchange solution?
This is very worrying. With the death of Windows 6.5.x .... i'm now f*&ked with no real alternative.

I downloaded and installed MIQ, heres what I found.
The program didnt seem to work right. I setup the account, and it performed a syn, but none of the contacts updated. So, knowing that the Droid X is all about Google, I decided to break down and create that free GMail account. I then exported my contacts list into a .csv from Outlook, and then imported them into Gmail. A sync took place minutes later, and all of my contacts (all 700 of them) were now in the phone.
I'm kindof bothered by the fact that moving forward, if I want to use Outlook, Im going to have to do this everytime. Unless, I find a 3rd party software that actually works. I see where Google is taking this - force all MS Outlook users to move to the cloud with Gmail. I'm not a big fan of that business strategy, but it appears that I dont have any other choice at this time.

We all have a choice. As soon as iPhone is on Verizon I am likely to abandon Droid. For all its good (and there's a lot) -- the lack of a viable sync with Outlook is not only unworkable, it's arrogant and offensive. As much as I did not want an iPhone, I also don't like the imposition of disorganization on my life, and I don't like being bullied by Google, which is basically what they are doing. I am not going to abandon Outlook -- it is integral to my work and my life. My whole organization uses it. Gmail is NOT a replacement. It is clumsy, requires TONS of memory to run with a substantial contacts database (freezes my PC every time I open my contacts in Gmail.com as I have over 3000), and has insufficient depth or flexibility in its calendar, notes and email filing function.
When this phone is ready to be replaced, the only question I will ask is "Has Google provided a native sync for ALL of Outlook (stand-alone, not Exchange), including calendar, notes, tasks and contacts. If the answer is yes, I will upgrade to a new Droid. If the answer is No I will go to iPhone. I encourage all other frustrated Android/Outlook users to take the same position. A critical mass of people "voting with dollars" is the only thing that will impress upon Google what a huge error in product design and strategy they are making.

I am in the same boat and I have the Droid X. I am testing the www.good.com server and it works well with both the Droid and iPhone. It has a similar architecture as the BES server and it much more secure than doing active sync. Hope this helps but it is an enterprise product.

Hi, I also got my droid X last weekend and I was surprised at the apparent lack of even a wired USB sync. Compared to my BB storm that was never an issue, I didn't even think about it that such a basic feature is not "just there".
Kind of not what I hoped for ... how was the slogan "Droid can..."
I will continue to monitor and search the site, maybe there will be something coming soon.

I'm glad you found a solution, although I wish it would have been easier. For anyone still searching for a solution, www.syncdroid.net has a list of sync software available, their prices, and a lot of other information in table form to help you choose what you need. It's good to finally have a place that does this.
