Hello all,

I wanted to know if anyone else has been having problems since the latest update from T-Mobile.

Ever since i updated my phone I can no longer mount the SD card with my phone when it's plugged into my computer with USB. The device manager shows the storage volume as a generic volume with a yellow circle with a black ! inside of it. I've tried uninstalling the volume from device manager, and even went as far as doing a reset on the phone to see if that would help.

I'm not sure if this is how it normally behaves but when I unmounted and removed the Micro SD card from my phone and plugged in the USB cable, it still shows a Generic Volume in my device manager which still has the yellow circle with a black ! inside of it.

I'm going to contact T-Mobile support at this time to see if they have had any other issues like mine.

If anyone has any suggestions as to why this is happening and perhaps a resolution I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thank You.

It appears I have found a temporary work around for the time being.

I unplugged my phone and plugged it back in, the device manager still shows the generic volume with the yellow circle and black !, the message in the properties window says the device cannot start.

I went to the notifications bar at the top and pressed the mount button. Device manager still shows that the generic volume has not started.

I right clicked on the generic volume and uninstalled it, i went to the top and scanned for hardware changes, the generic volume still came up and said it didn't start. I clicked the scan for new hardware changes again and it finally showed the generic volume and the removable disk in windows explorer.

It now works and I'm able to move files to and from the phones SD card. If I unplug and plug the phone back in once it's working, the generic volume states it cannot start and I have to repeat the process above which seems to work every single time to get explorer to show the device. I've rebooted to see if perhaps a driver had to be reinstalled since the update or something but it seems that it doesn't help, I'll have to do this every single time I plug my device in, ( unless a windows format helps )

I hope this helps anyone else out there that was having problems!

This is what I found on another forum:

You might wonder why you are missing the Use for USB Storage option on your T-Mobile G1 phone. Apparently this was removed with an update. You now have this option in the notification area when you connect the G1 to your computer that enables this feature.

Yup. I have this problem too. But it doesn't even show up in the device manager. And Eclipse used to recognize it along with the emulator, but not anymore.

Also, I can't even install .apk files from the web or the SD card, so this is a major problem that needs to fixed asap.

Not sure if reformatting the SD card or a "factory reset" would help though. Anyone tried those?

This is showing up everywhere right now. Can't be a hardware issue.

I get no notification. Computer/cable make no difference. I've tried the anycut fix, and I'm not taking it any further at this point. I'll wait and see what turns up.

There are instructions for formatting your SD card. But I don't have an adapter, and I don't want to lose anything. I've found several threads that say T-Mo is replacing G1s for this reason.

I'm going to ride it out and see what happens with a software fix.

I'm not recommending any of this stuff - but it's worth looking at.

btw, I tried the factory reset. That didn't help.
Would reformat the SD card, but don't have an adapter either.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the only people I can find who have experienced this had it happen in the last two weeks. Maybe it was not caused by an update, but an installed program. I dunno. I do know that it makes me sad.

Did you recently install Android File Manager, Steel, or... anything else?

I've been trying a ton of apps. It would suck if the apps had the ability to mess up your phone like that. And yeah, Android File Manager was one of them.

I wish I can get root access on RC30. I might be able to debug what's going on.
