It appears I have found a temporary work around for the time being.
I unplugged my phone and plugged it back in, the device manager still shows the generic volume with the yellow circle and black !, the message in the properties window says the device cannot start.
I went to the notifications bar at the top and pressed the mount button. Device manager still shows that the generic volume has not started.
I right clicked on the generic volume and uninstalled it, i went to the top and scanned for hardware changes, the generic volume still came up and said it didn't start. I clicked the scan for new hardware changes again and it finally showed the generic volume and the removable disk in windows explorer.
It now works and I'm able to move files to and from the phones SD card. If I unplug and plug the phone back in once it's working, the generic volume states it cannot start and I have to repeat the process above which seems to work every single time to get explorer to show the device. I've rebooted to see if perhaps a driver had to be reinstalled since the update or something but it seems that it doesn't help, I'll have to do this every single time I plug my device in, ( unless a windows format helps

)
I hope this helps anyone else out there that was having problems!
