Yes, it is snowing! You are not hallucinating.
Got my new G1 today. Not quite as good as my first one--a dead pixel, screen goes too far to the left when closed, keys are not quite centered in their holes. I'm probably being more picky and observant now than I was with my first phone. It's built solid and everything seems to work, so I can live with this.
Man, I will never return another T-mo phone unless absolutely necessary. What they send back is refurbished at best... even though they promise "like new."
The option of returning to a store isn't likely for me. I pre-ordered from T-Mo. I'm pretty happy now though, and learned a little something in the process. So all is good.
Please post back whatever info you get regarding the USB mount. It's going to be useful for someone. Hopefully not me.

Well, I followed the instructions on this page
http://rivviepop.wordpress.com/2008/...ed-up-sd-card/
using my original SD card (the one that came w/ the phone), but it didn't help. No log messages or response at all from linux or windows when I plug in the phone.
The reformatting process was straight forward. I could mount my SD card w/ a card reader before and after the formatting, but not with the phone. And I can use the SD card just fine on the phone (taking pictures, playing music, downloading, etc..).
I feel like I'm missing something really simple...

Sorry if you already mentioned this... you've tried a few different cables, right?

whats sup people .. as you know there are alot of people saying that there usb mount / transfer capability is not working ... i thought so myself that indeed it wasnt working. i pluged it in nothing . i used the card itself nothing .. so i thought this sucks .. ill wait for an update or something but actully i read somewhere in the thread i think or somewhere that
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO ONCE , THE PHONE IS ATTACHED TO THE USB CORD IN TO THE COMPUTER AND THE CARD IS IN THE PHONE. PULL DOWN THE NOTIFICATION BAR WITH THE USB SYMBOL AND USE THE TOUCH SCREEN TO CLICK ON IT AND "MOUNT"
I DID THIS YESTERDAY AND I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR FOR EVERYONE..
1.Make sure card is in the phone, and attached usb from computer to phone.
2.when you plug in the phone , the notification bar will show the USB symbol
3.Pull down the notification bar, touch the usb symbol (like you would a text , email etc.)
4.Then click the option to "MOUNT" and it will connect and the dialog box on your computer will open to .. play files , etc. etc. but choose the last option on the bottom which is the FOLDER and open so you can XFER and Delete.
i hope this helps ... i was kinda upset that it wasnt working once pluged in but this worked for me and i have the RC 30 update..

Yup, tried different cables.
And I know about the notification. I used to get it when I first got the phone, now nothing (at all) changes/shows up in the notification bar.
Tried different SD cards, on linux and windows, reformatting, rebooting, enabling mass storage, enabling usb debugging, nada.
Both the phone and the computer act as if the cable is never plugged in, except for the phone starts to charge.
Best guess now is that the connector on the phone is messed up so that power gets through but data is getting blocked/corrupted. Been searching about this problem for a couple of weeks, but not finding many posts similar to mine. Must not be a software problem.

Windows doesn't say anything when you plug it in? That's T-Mo's primary concern. I got an error, and that was it. Troubleshooting over.
Yeah, I was sure it was software, but then I noticed all similar posts were getting solved via all the stuff we've tried. Maybe it is a borked connector.
