Same error here.

When i stop synchronizing contacts, everything works fine.

I have a huge number of contacts where the email adress is aperently not correct (export from outlook to gmail did nog work out fine). Email adresses are like this:
/o=***BELGIUM/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=JAE

Could this be the reason for this error?

(I'd rather ask before start manually changing about 100 contacts and maybe find out that it does not work).

Thanks!

I also had this issue with the acore process. I went into the task manager and killed an installer app that looked like it was still trying to install something. That seemed to do the trick after a re-boot. No need to factory reset. That would be a last ditch solution.

Appears my touch screen broke but would this stop me from making and receiving phone calls as well?
Whenever an incoming call rang my G1 this error message would appear giving me the option to force close. Contacts, call screen, dialer all gave same 'sorry!' screen making them unreachable and my phone no longer showed missed calls. Internet and text messaging still worked as well as any other program installed. unable to reset to factory setting from 'setting menu' due to lack of touch screen functionality. I'm guessing they must not want you to reset it without your touch screen because you can't log into the phone after a reset without 'touching the android to begin'
First I shut it down and took the battery out for a while and started it back up but to no avail. Then a friend suggested a hard reset holding the home and power button and in turn holding alt + w.
Now it appears that I have a brick... but here's the funny part:
my options are to touch the android to begin(obviously out of the question)
settings, change language and make emergency call. Clicking the emergency call button with the trackball still gives me this error message even after the hard factory reset. !?!?!?!?
Android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly.
is this strange? is there some other piece of hardware in there that busted with the touch screen?

Hi, all-

I seem to be having a similar problem to the above poster; I found this page through a Google-search.

Yesterday, my touchscreen unexpectedly stopped working. Now, whenever I try to access my contacts or answer a call on my G1, I find that I get the android.process.acore problem, with the only option being to Force Close.

I can't think of anything I've done that would have caused this, software-wise. I did drop the phone yesterday morning, but it still seemed to work fine after that, with no visible damage; the touchscreen only stopped working much later in the day.

If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

In my case, I suddenly found that the contact app is not displaying the contact entries. Instead, it showed the initial screen when there is no entry. I tried adding a test contact and got the error with android.process.acore. I import my contacts from the SIM card. The process completed but the entries didn't show. From reading this tread, I guess it is due to the ringtone I assigned to two contacts. Gmail contact does not store ringtones.

So I went into each and every Google-related app (in settings->applications->manage applications), did a "clear data", "clear defaults", and "force stop" wherever applicable. Then I did a "clear data" and "force stop" to "package installer", "contacts", and "contacts storage" app.

And the problem was solved, though I have to re-import my contacts from the SIM card. From my sequence of action, it's not clear the problem is with "package installer" or the Gmail sync. Notheless, I'm going to find other ways of backing up my contacts. This really sucks, caused me an evening of unnecessary agony.

Next thing I want to do is to root my phone and remove these Gmail stuff.
