Calendar Sync -- Appointments on Home Screen

I am looking into buying an Android Phone, but had a question.

I've been using Windows Mobile, and in addition to easy sync with Outlook calendar, you can have your upcoming appointments show up on the front screen of the phone (don't need to go into calendar to see).

I assumed I'd be able to do this with an android phone b/c it's supposed to be customizable, but am reading about problems w/ Outlook sync generally which makes me nervous.

Anyone know whether appointments can push to the home screen? Thanks.
