There's an article over at techcrunch.com pointing out the possible downsides of using the touchscreen based 'dot pattern' login.

Personally i think such fingerprint smudges are a drawback of any touchscreen phone, i dont see how this differs from any number based entry of touchscreen phones.

Surely the iphone's numerical login can be 'hacked' the same way, i mean once you've got the 4 digits, there's only so many combinations right?

What do you guys think?

Not a concern to me... Something more important security-wise would be the ability to remotely wipe a lost or stolen device, like with my Windows Mobile phone and my Hosted Exchange account. From the user control panel of the web-based Outlook client, I have the option to wipe any of the WM devices I sync with. I think any initial security, like a 4-digit code or connect-the-dots, is just a safeguard. Remote-device-wipe is more along the lines of what I'd consider to be 'security'...
