Quick question re: user downloaded updates

Morning!

Quick question. I'm on the look out for a new smartphone in the next couple of months after using WinMo and Symbian phones for the last few years.

I was wondering is it possible to buy a Android 1.5 phone now and then when Donut comes out be able to upgrade the firmware of the phone (like you can with hundreds of WinMoo roms).

Is that possible?

Donut (1.6) will be sent out as an OTA (over the Air) upgrade within the next few weeks (in the UK). You wouldn't have to do anything other than accept the download. Takes about 10 mins and all your info is safe. Couldn't be easier.

Alternatively, you could manually install one of the many custom roms (need to know what you're doing in case it goes wrong and would invalidate any warranty) of which most are based on 1.6.
