Deleting sms messages

Hi all,

I have not deleted my sms text messages in awhile, a couple are in the 2500+, which seems to slow down the app when I open the selected person or send something.... I have tried to delete the entire thread, but all my phone does is lock up the sms , and then I have to shut down the phone and restart it to be able to access my sms again. Does anyone know why this is happening or is there any other way to delete the threads using another route?

My phone (G1) will lock up if I open another app or start a new text with a different person while deleting the thread if there are near 300+, but never locking up to where a restart is required.

Try deleting the thread then, wait a while. I'm not very experienced, but out of observation, the more SMS messages in a thread, the longer it takes to delete. If it takes around 30 seconds for 300 messages to be deleted, 2500+ may take a while.

That is my guess. I would just set the phone down while deleting and go do something else for several minutes (maybe 10, to be safe...)
