Hi,

My last phone was a Nokia N95. It was great because it enabled internet access on your computer via a USB cable (providing you had signed up for unlimited internet on your phone contract).

Now the N95 is old & tired, I decided to try out the G1, which I love.

Seeing as the G1 didn't come with any software discs for the computer I presume they is no way to intruct the computer to go through the mobile's modem to get the internet on the computer (which I did before on the N95 without effort).

I realise that the G1 is specifically for the internet and so why would I want to hook it up to my pc, I don't have internet connected at my home & this feature comes in useful when needing to update microsoft windows etc.

Cheers

your best bet at this point (unless you root your device) is simply using it as a web proxy (unfortunately this means you cannot use AIM or Yahoo, or anything but web based stuff, excluding web apps that connect to non web servers, eg. aim-express won't work, or chat-zilla irc type web apps)
Using G1 as a SOCKS proxy: http://graha.ms/androidproxy/

Search for PDAnet - it does exactly what you need without rooting your phone
