I'm getting this problem too and my auto synch is ON. Email threads can be resumed via desktop, but all notifications are screwed, I assume due to outgoing emails still being in the "sending" state on my android.
I've had 2 threads in limbo for several weeks. any ideas fellow android users?

Did you ever figure out a fix for this? This issue (G1, auto sync on, tried 100 other things as well...) is driving me crazy. My friend who has a mytouch has never had this problem so I think it's just related to the G1.

It seems pretty stupid to me that gmail isn't working on an android phone...

Sounds similar to my G1. Sent emails will mostly work but sometimes not. The failed ones appear at the end of the thread with the text missing and then shortly after as a blank draft.

Yep that's exactly what's going on with mine too. Like MOST of the time it works, but then I'll send an email, expect a reply, check my mail again on my phone in an hour and the message I "sent" is still there with "sending..." in red.

I noticed that if I go into home screen -> menu -> settings -> applications -> manage applications -> then clear gmail and gmail storage cache, it starts working correctly again, but only for like a day.

I consider myself a google fanboi, but I'm getting a little pissed off that the gmail app doesn't even work on android...

Gmail works only sporadically. Yet another G1 problem. NOTHING surprises me with this phone (except when it actually works). Absolutely the worst phone on the market. I always carry a spare phone in case I really need something that works.

We need to meet!

"I actually love android"

Anyone who is so forgiving of all the weaknesses of the G1 has the potential to be my mate for life.

I've been tracking this issue in 5 other forums, and it looks like tmobile AND google don't give a shit about the G1 users. =(
