Just been reading today that the LiMo foundation have announced their plans to release seven new phones based on its software. One is from Motorola, while the other six come from Japan.

Quote:
There are now 21 mobile handset models available using the LiMo Platform, the industry’s first collaboratively developed, Linux-based operating system for mobile devices. The new Motorola model—the company’s seventh LiMo handset— combines a high-quality phone and camera experience. The models from NEC and Panasonic Mobile Communications—which give the companies eight and six LiMo handsets, respectively—are available in Japan.

Several of the latest LiMo handsets include advanced enabling features that herald the forthcoming Mobile 2.0 experience for global consumers. These include international 3G/High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) roaming capabilities, Global Positioning System (GPS), mobile TV and advanced video streaming, secure payment and advanced mail functionalities—all presented through higher-resolution displays and intuitive user interfaces.

I have decided to go with LiMo for now, Purple Magic Phone looks wonderful and cheap for now. I don't think that it would be wise to wait for 3, 6 or even more months that I could see Android live on one or several mobile phones which of course will cost a lot more than we would like, maybe even more than the iPhone. So LiMo looks for now almost the best solution, OpenMoko for now is for developers, but as I know they have plans for two new model and the last one is going to have even 3G. The new OpenMoko 2008.08 operating system even changed they GUI which now looks a lot better.

This is my list of OS:
iPhone (Mac OS X)
LiMo
Android (would be in the second place, but no words from Google about Android for months)
OpenMoko (would be in the second or third place, but it is still more for developers (even thought I belong to developers category, I want things to be as simple as they can be, with ability to get to the core if I need.) and has some more issues that makes it not that good, but with new versions coming I think it will improve and maybe even will be better than the LiMo and Android. They have advantage, their device was released long time ago and they can work to make it more better which users help.)
