Apparently there's a lot of bad blood between facebook and google, and by what i've been reading that's going to be problematic for any official facebook app for the Android platform.

Quote:
So why no Andoid app? The official reason is that Facebook is looking to others to develop these applications. Joe Hewitt pushed the iPhone app internally, a spokesperson says, and RIM built the app themselves (but Facebook lent engineers). Google or third parties are free to use the Facebook API to build apps using Facebook services, the spokesperson said.

But the off record discussions I’m having with others at Facebook tell a different story. One source derisively called Android “vaporware”. Another source at Facebook says “Android sucks, it doesn’t matter.” - TechCrunch
I'm sure the http://iphone.facebook.com will still look ok on the G1, but it's a shame there wont be an officially sanctioned facebook app... I was kinda looking forward to some real-time social networking on Android.

That is a bummer :/
Though I can't take facebooks side of this, the redesign of their site blows chunks and all those little bumper stickers and other applications are awful.
I really liked facebook a couple of years ago when it felt like a striped down raw version of myspace. That was designed alot better of course.

Yeah all those design updates and features caused quite the backlash... I'm hoping some 3rd party will step in though.

I nice slimmed down facebook client for Android would rock! Not sure of the legal problems that would cause though...

it's funny though that facebook would be in the default bookmarks for the web browser.
