I could write this about how much I hate the calendar function on the G1. (I truly, truly hate it by the way. It’s basically a retarded Alarm clock. I think about how the calendar project at Google was probably given to some recent college grad who has never had to keep track of anything in his/her life. Actually to be honest and not sexist, I pictured it as a “him” who used very complex spreadsheets during advanced studies at MIT and felt that this project was beneath him. So he decided to sabotage it before he went for a higher paying but less perkifull job at Microsoft) But instead, I will tell you some immediate changes that need to be done in order for it to be at least competent:
1) When I get a notification that I have a calendar “alarm” in the status bar, and press the entry, and am taken to Calendar Notifications. I am given two options: Snooze All OR Dismiss All. My feeble attempts to long-press so that I can choose how long I need to snooze are futile. So instead I go for the “snooze all”. The problem is that there is no option to dictate when I will be notified again. I have no idea what just happened to my entry or when I will see it again.
Here is what you should do: When I go to the Calendar Notifications, allow the user to long-press the entry in the calendar. At which point a window comes up with the options A) Snooze for 5 mins B) Snooze for 15 mins C) Snooze for 1 Hour D) Custom Time
2)When I’m making a calendar entry, can you add a recurring event every 2 weeks? Like how often half of this country gets paid or how often I have to run my reports
3)Back to the #1, make a default snooze time in the settings. That way, when I use your now-useful “snooze all” button, I know when I will be reminded again.
4)When I go to make a new entry in the calendar (AKA “New Event”), Can you make the default day as the current day? Or at least give an option in the settings? Sometimes it will go to a day that I was viewing on the calendar or some other arbitrary day. Just make it the current day….believe me, less people will hate you.
There are a few others, but these are critical. I hope someone reads this. I like you…most of the time.
Oh yeah, if someone is listening, please allow me to view my contacts while I'm on the phone with someone. How many times must we be asked "Do you have so-and-so's number?" and our only response is "I have to call you back since I can't look for it now. Yes, I know have the G1...but it's not very bright"
