MediaTek announces LTE-capable 64-bit MT6732 chipset

64-bit systems are all the rage in smartphones now, and MediaTek isn’t going to be left behind. They’ve announced their newest 64-bit MT6732 chipset for 2014, complete with cat-4 LTE connectivity, a 1.5 GHz quad-core ARM cortex-A53 CPU and a Mali-T670 GPU. On paper, it’s a very capable chipset that’s bound to end up in a ton of budget phones by the end of the year.

The MT6732 is capable of low-power 1080p video playback, a wide range of codec support, and 1080p video capture at 30 fps. It also supports a host of radios, including HSPA+, dual-band WiFi, Miracast, and Bluetooth 4.0. It’s slated to be used in devices in Q3 of 2014. » Read the rest

MediaTek has announced a new motto, Everyday Genius, to serve as their new branding motif. To help highlight this new marketing direction, MediaTek took the opportunity during MWC 2014 to announce a new quad-core chipset aimed at devices in the “super-mid market” as they describe it. MediaTek’s wireless charging technology could support many devices, getting rid of the crowded field of standards

MediaTek has announced that they have successfully created a way technology that allows wireless charging to take place regardless of the equipment being used. While it is not ready for immediate production, it will solve a big issue with wireless charging

There are many different wireless charging solutions; therefore, a person’s tablet and smartphone may not use the same wireless charging technology. Also, they require a very precise position on a charging pad. MediaTek’s solution would allow devices to be laid anywhere on the charging pad without having to worry about the position. Huawei Glory 4 photos leak, has 5.5-inch display, MediaTek octa-core processor

Huawei’s “G750″ (most likely the Glory 4) has some leaked pictures going around the web, and the device is rumored to have MediaTek’s octa-core MT6592 CPU running inside— MediaTek says that the processor can run all eight cores simultanoeusly— an impressive feat.

The processor supports 4K video playback and cameras with 16MP stills and full HD.

The device is supposed to have a 5.5-inch display but only with 720p resolution, 2GB RAM, and 32 GB internal storage. The device is expected to ship with Android 4.2.2 (according to a leaked photo) but that can always change. Hit the link below from GSM Arena for more photos.

Gameloft shows MediaTek’s octa-core CPU’s advantages in new video

mediatek_octa_core_screenshot_videoGameloft has released a new video to show off the advantages of MediaTek’s new MT6592 processor, specifically for their Modern Combat 5 game. The video compares MediaTek’s octa-core processor with a quad-core one. Soft particles and depth of field are demonstrated so when the foreground is focused on, the background blurs. Lighting is enhanced much more with rays from the sun being able to reflect off of the players eyes. In the image above, you can see the ground can reflect what is above and also shadows can form. And something that any gamer will welcome is the addition of a lot more texture.

MediaTek reveals MT6592 octa-core CPU with clock speeds up to 2 GHz

MediaTek has unveiled their true octa-core mobile processor with the model MTD6592. It features 8 cores that can all run simultaneously, and MediaTek says they work extremely well together to give a great balance between performance and battery life. The CPU is based on 28 nm technology and was designed for a high-end smartphone experience, including gaming and multitasking on flagship phones and tablets. Each of the 8 cores is capable of hitting speeds of up to 2 GHz, so it’s definitely no slouch.

This chipset supports 4k output on phones, a full HD screen, and up to a 16 megapixel camera. That’s pretty standard for most other high-end processors in the market, so MediaTek has made this one as competitive as possible. You can expect the chip to start making its way into phones by the end of this year, although the bulk of devices with the chipset won’t hit the market until 2014.

Quad and octa-core MediaTek processors to come to Samsung devices in 2014

Recent news from DigiTimes says that MediaTek’s quad-core and octa-core processors could be used in Samsung devices as early as next year. MediaTek currently has hardware built into many of the devices manufactured in India and China. 

This could be a huge deal for MediaTek, which would mean that they are providing chipsets to the world’s largest smartphone maker.

It’s more likely that they use MediaTek’s chips in lower-end and mid-range devices and keep using their own Exynos chips in their own flagship devices. Although MediaTek’s chip are quad and octa-core, they are very affordable considering their quality.

Competition causes companies to constantly raise the bar, which turns out to be a big benefit for consumers. Another side-effect that is produced is the occasional sniping that companies will take at each other, always entertaining in this age of connected technology. The latest example involves Qualcomm and MediaTek, both working to gain your business via smartphone and tablet device manufacturers’ choices for their mobile processors. Amazon to launch new low-cost Kindle Fire in Q1 2014, will pack MediaTek MT8135 quad-core SoC

MediaTek has begun mass-producing their MT8135 quad-core SoC’s, which consists of two clusters including Dual Cortex A15 cores and Dual Cortex A7 cores. The cores work simultaneously, and feature a powerVR Series 6 GPU (PowerVR 6200), and supports Wireless Certified Miracast. Qualcomm certainly has a huge competitor that’s rising fast, as MediaTek’s low cost chips have already been used in Acer, Asus, and Lenovo products to date.

MediaTek announces world’s first true octa-core processor for mobile devices

We’d recently caught wind that MediaTek might be unveiling the world’s first true octa-core CPU for mobile phones, and that dream has now become a reality. They announced today that they were officially going to begin producing the 8-core beast for manufacturers to begin using later this year.

Now, you may be thinking that Samsung’s already beat them to the punch with octa-core processors, but it’s important to remember that because of Samsung’s big.LITTLE implementation of their CPU architecture, only 4 cores are ever active at once, essentially making them act like two separate quad-core CPUs. This MediaTek processor does not work like that, offering a full 8-core CPU all the time, along with all the advantages that may bring. The CPU bangs out around 30,000 on an AnTuTu benchmark and varies in clock speed from 1.7 GHz to 2.0 GHz. It can decode 1080p video at 30 FPS.

Samples are currently being sent out to manufacturers with mass production slated for November. Hopefully we’ll this CPU start making appearances in more devices this time next year.
