More details for Samsung Galaxy S 4 Zoom discovered

As Samsung continues its march to produce a Galaxy S 4 model targeted at virtually every type of consumer, we continue to try to identify specifics for all of the models slated to hit the market. Our latest bit of information comes from a leaked UAProf file that was discovered on the Samsung domain. The file indicates it is for an SM-C101, which we have confirmed is the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Zoom. We see in the UAProf that the device will have an ARM11 processor and it also confirms the device will have a screen resolution of 960×540 as we reported earlier.

The Galaxy S 4 Zoom appears to distinguish itself from other models by packing in a 16MP camera capable of 10X digital zoom. Some have described the device as more of a camera phone than a smart phone.

New version of HTC One to launch with a larger screen

The latest round of rumors from the HTC camp are saying that a newer HTC One may be launching soon. The catch? It’ll have a larger screen, supposedly between 5 and 6 inches. Now, before you flip out and bash HTC for replacing a flagship device so quickly, (again) the rumors suggest that this larger phone would just supplement the One, like what Samsung does with their Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices. And considering the HTC Butterfly and Droid DNA had 5 inch screens, this could very well be a slightly bumped up version of those devices. We have seen that speculated DLXPLUS floating around in Verizon systems for a while, remember? Anything’s possible.

At this point, this is still a pretty hazy rumor, so take it with a grain of salt. I’d like to see HTC launch a competitive phablet, but I think they’d run the risk of over-saturating their market if they release a One Mini and One Plus right on the heels of the HTC One really just starting to take off.

Samsung to provide OLED screens for consumer version of Google Glass

Good news for Samsung today because Google has agreed to use their OLED screens for the consumer version of Google Glass. Samsung has been going toe to toe with LG lately, but LG has been leading the way.

“Samsung will supply its high-end OLED screens for Google Glass. This is a really big thing because its means that Google shares confidential data with Samsung on its futuristic projects,” said an executive at one of Samsung Display’s local parts suppliers.

This deal will no doubt strengthen Samsung’s OLED business. Samsung Display CEO Kim Ki-nam said, “OLED on silicon may be used for glasses-type, augmented-reality devices much like the Google Glass. The wearable market will be a major beneficiary of the free-form factor advantage of flexible OLEDs. Smartphone-linked wearable accessory products such as watches and health bands will use ultra-thin flexible OLEDs embedded with various sensors.”

Of course the next generation of OLEDs will be flexible and unbreakable, but LG seems to have a leg up in that department.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Developer Edition slated for AT&T and Verizon

Looks like there’s news that Verizon and AT&T will both receive a developer edition of Samsung’s Galaxy S4. Both of these versions of the S4 have a locked down bootloader, so it makes sense for a developer edition to come out on both of these companies. While developers over at XDA have already dismantled and un-locked the bootloader in both of these respective devices, it is still nice to see Verizon and AT&T releasing an unlocked version for those who wish to purchase one.

Lets not get confused with the Google Edition of the S4 that’s due out to be released next month, these two developer phones are still running TouchWiz and not stock Android. The only difference is that the bootloader is unlocked compared to the regular versions of it that Verizon and AT&T currently sell.

After much speculation, HTC may in fact release a “Sense-less” stock Android version of their HTC One

Remember during Google IO when an HTC employee hinted at a “stock Google experience” HTC One in response to Samsung’s Galaxy S4 Google Edition? Well, that seems to be inching closer and closer towards the truth as even more “tipsters” have confirmed such a device is indeed coming. Now before you write this out as just another rumor, keep in mind where this rumor comes from. Russel Holly from Geek.com first outed the Google Edition of the S4 the night before it was announced, and now he claims the same sources that gave him that information are now providing the same in regards to a “Sense-less” HTC One.

No actual date has been given, but he did say that one of the sources said the device should be announced in the next two weeks or so with a summer release. Of course, this is still a non-factual rumor so take it for what it is. The Sense software helps make the HTC One as great as it is in my opinion, thus I’m not sure if having a stock Android HTC One device would make it any better. Either way, having it out there as a choice is certainly a great thing and something plenty of people will be excited for.

Verizon and AT&T Galaxy S 4 gets bootloader unlock method

Since the Verizon S 4 is officially available today, we’re also getting the official bootloader unlock method today. Dan Rosenberg, who has been responsible for unlocking many Snapdragon powered devices lately, was waiting for Verizon to drop their variant of the S 4 before releasing his work so Verizon couldn’t work a patch in. This method works on the Verizon and AT&T models, but now that the exploit is out in the open, a patch may come with a future update.

Right now, the tools aren’t really easy to use. Fortunately though, we can probably expect some friendly tools to show up for the less tech savvy soon. In case you do want to get your hands dirty and unlock your new S 4, you can check out the links below to download the tools.

HTC One sales strong at 5 million despite supply issues and reshuffling execs

Following Samsung’s announcement that it has sold 10 million units of the Galaxy S 4 in less than a month’s time, HTC has some news to share as well— they have sold 5 million units of the HTC One in almost the same time-frame.

This surprisingly high showing comes in a time where HTC is suffering from a shortage of components and manufacturing supplies, as well as a dramatic reshuffling of execs.

“Orders are pretty good so far and are still more than what we can supply. This is partly due to the shortage of components. When the issue is resolved next month, we will have a better idea if it’s doing really well or not,” an anonymous HTC executive said.

This is all pretty encouraging news for the company which had been recently slipping in the minds of consumers— they should be just fine if sales figures can keep this pace in the coming months. (And of course if they can resolve their issues with manufacturing and disgruntled employees.)

AT&T to offer Samsung Galaxy S 4 in new “Aurora Red” color starting June 14, pre-orders start tomorrow

AT&T has announced that they will be offering an “Aurora Red” version of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 starting on June 14. If you can’t wait until then to make your purchase, you’re in luck because pre-orders start tomorrow, May 24. The phone will cost $199.99 with a new two-year contract, the same price as the already available “White Frost” and “Black Mist” colors currently offered by the carrier.
