Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside announced just a few weeks ago that multiple upcoming smartphones from the company would be broadly distributed across carriers. Among this next wave of smartphones from Motorola are the “Moto X” series phones that are already gaining a ton of buzz among consumers— and now it looks as though the Moto X (XFON XT1055) has finally hit the FCC as expected. This variant will head to U.S. Cellular (LTE band 12), making that at least four variants of the phone. We already knew of Verizon’s, Sprint’s, and AT&T’s variants— now the only major U.S. carrier without an FCC filing for the device thus far would be T-Mobile.

The device is expected to have a Snapdragon S4 Pro dual-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, hold 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 10MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 720p display, and Android 4.2.2. All of these specs seem pretty mid-range and they don’t exactly jump out at you over any other phones currently on the market— that’s why we’re expecting some other cool features to come with this phone, such as unique sensors and software by Motorola that will do things such as turn your camera on the moment you pull your phone out of your pocket, and of course other features as well.

Name of HTC One Mini, 720p HD screen confirmed

htc_one_miniThere’s finally some concrete evidence of a mini HTC One that will be called the HTC One Mini. The guys at TNW found a User Agent profile of the device on a Taiwanese website owned by HTC. Besides the name and model number (PO581) being confirmed, through the profile we also now know that the phone will come with Android 4.2 and a 720p HD screen.

Since smartphones became popular, they have been getting bigger and bigger. The Galaxy S 4 Mini and now the HTC One Mini suggest otherwise. There’s still a lot left to discover about the One Mini, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated.

HTC confirms Android 4.2 for HTC One, despite early update being pulled

HTC had apparently begun pushing out an Android 4.2.2 update to the HTC One, but according to UK carrier Three, the update was pulled with no specific reasoning. They didn’t, however, say when or if HTC was going to begin rolling the update out again. HTC attempted to clarify some things, saying the One is still slated to receive Android 4.2.2, but customers are going to have to wait just a little bit longer before its available. Better late than never, I guess.

Hopefully we’ll see that update sooner rather than later.

World’s slimmest smartphone, the Huawei Ascend P6, is now official

Huawei just took the wraps off the Ascend P6. As expected, it’s the world’s slimmest smartphone at 6.18mm and it just so happens today is 6/18 to coincide with the announcement. It has a 4.7-inch 720p in-cell LCD display, a 1.5GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 8GB internal storeage, microSD slot, 8MP rear BSI camera with f/2.0 aperture, 5MP front camera, 2,000mAh battery, and Android 4.2.2. The LCD display has “Magic Touch” for better response when using gloves. The Ascend P6 also features multi-screen AirSharing capability, which lets you connect to a bunch of devices for sharing documents and games.

It will be released in China this month and Western Europe in July through Vodafone, Telefonica, Orange, H3G, O2, Carphone Warehouse, TalkTalk, Media Markt & Saturn, TIM and online via Amazon and CDiscount with other markets to follow. Sony will be competing with the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Zoom and the Nokia EOS in the fall when it releases its own cameraphone, the i1 Honami. The device will come with a Cybershot-quality camera and a full HD display.

If the specs that have been leaked so far are legitimate, then this phone could be an absolute beast. It is expected to be the first true “One Sony” device, made with the strategy of converging the best Sony has to offer in its mobile gear. Salivate after the break. » Read the rest

We had another busy week at TalkAndroid so here’s a recap of all the top stories. E3 and WWDC took place this week. E3 showed us some new upcoming games and WWDC was just about Apple trying to play catch up, but what else is new? Samsung has announced all their rumored devices, which pretty much just leaves the Galaxy Camera 2 for their June 20th event in London. We are getting very close to the HTC Butterfly S, HTC One Mini and the Xperia ZU. BTW, is it too soon to start talking about the Galaxy S 5? It’s time to get caught up and get ready for another exciting week.

ZTE U988S With 1.8GHz Tegra 4i Processor and Android 4.2.2 Gets Benchmarked

Ever since Nvidia debuted the Tegra 4 platform earlier this year we haven’t seen hide nor hair of an announcement of a device running on it, besides the Nvidia Shield and hints of other devices that is. According to news posts a few days ago we weren’t expected to see it in a phone until quarter one of next year. However it looks like ZTE is going to change that if the current AuTuTu Benchmark database is correct.

According to the database the ZTE U988S was tested running Android 4.2.2. with a Tegra 4i processor running at 1.8GHz. It was benchmarked in China and came out with a score of 29,784. The phone will have a 5.7 inch 720p display, 2GB of RAM, an 8MP rear/2MP front camera, as well as the other staple amenities. That will include Bluetooth, a MicroSD slot, GPS and microUSB.

We’re not sure if this will make a debut anywhere but China at this point as it hasn’t even been officially announced by ZTE. We’ll let you know when they do. Stay tuned!

Specs leak for the highly anticipated Motorola X phone, featuring HD screen, 2GB of RAM and dual-core processor

Unsurprisingly, infamous twitter user @evleaks has been gracious enough to list the specs of the new Motorola X phone, and its looking to be a solid mid-to-high end device. The Google-owned company has put together a phone running Android 4.2.2 Jellybean powered by 2GB of RAM, a dual-core 1.7GHz MSM8960 Pro processor, and comes with 16GB of internal storage. For those of you worried that a dual-core processor won’t satisfy your needs, it should be noted that in benchmarks the device out-performed the Samsung Galaxy S 4 and the HTC One. On the outside they’ve put a generous 10-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The display has a 1196 x 720, 720p resolution and its safe to assume it will be of the standard IPS variety.  » Read the rest
