Modest wireless carrier Alcatel has gotten in the spirit of Valentine’s Day and formally introduced its OneTouch Star smartphone. This device comes in a lovely pink shade and will come with all the bells and whistles found in a typical lower-level midrange device: an AMOLED display with an 800 x 480 resolution, a 1GHz dual-core processing unit plus 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and oh by the way will arrive with Jelly Bean fully-loaded.

No word on when it will be available exactly, but we suspect we’ll see it at a certain trade show coming up very soon

One of the more stunning revelations at CES has been the intriguing, yet attractive Alcatel Scribe X HSPA+ smartphone. Right off the bat, you can see the device’s large, but gorgeous 5-inch 1080p display which demonstrates the fluidity of the quad-core MediaTek processor in all its wonderful glory. In addition to seeing the gorgeous (and welcomed near-stock Android UI), we can see one of the big features that’s highlighted as the device is fitted with its special smart cover accessory.

The Scribe HSPA+ is due to arrive in stores and retailers shortly, while the Scribe HD-LTE will land on shelves by year’s end. To see the humble, but impressive device– hit the break to check out the video.

Alcatel announced an update to its line of tablets yesterday, effectively bringing fresh hardware across the spectrum. The Tab7HD features a 7-inch WXGA 1280 x 800 IPS display powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The larger Tab8HD sports the same specs as the smaller Tab7HD, although with a larger 8-inch display.

The One Touch Evo 7 HD utilizes the same internals as the other devices, though it comes with the option to purchase an additional mobile data module which Alcatel is claiming to be the first of its kind. With the additional HSPA+ module, the device is slated to be available for $249 at launch. There will also be a 4G LTE version in the future for $349.

.Hands On With The Alcatel T’Pop, S’Pop, M’Pop And X’Pop Smartphones .

Alcatel One Touch has certainly made a splash here at CES by introducing a host of awesome smartphones. Our own Rob Nazarian got some hands-on time with the T’Pop, S’Pop, M’Pop and X’Pop smartphones. As you can see, all 4 come in a variety of shapes and features– with the T’Pop, S’Pop, M’Pop and X’Pop models each featuring a single-core processor, but the M’Pop & X’Pop models both feature bigger screens and Jelly Bean running the show. The fairly exciting thing about this is the fact that each model seems to feature a lightly customized build of Android, so at least there’s no extra junk to slow the devices down much. All in all– the devices seem like a good bet to make a pretty good impression for those in the market for a budget-level device.

It also sports a 4.7-inch OLED HD display and an 8-megapixel camera. The One Touch Idol is aimed more towards the lower-end market, featuring a 4.7-inch qHD panel and an 8-megapixel camera. Alcatel updating Evo line of tablets

by Jeff Causey on

Earlier today we reported on Alcatel’s new products being shown at CES 2013. These included some high end smartphones, some new tablet devices, and some lower end smartphones. New products are not the only thing Alcatel is announcing today. They are also releasing some details about some upgrades to their existing line of Alcatel One Touch Evo tablets. The One Touch Evo 7 HD is very similar to the One Touch Tab 7 HD with both devices sporting 7-inch WXGA 1280 x 800 screens backed by 1GB RAM, a 1.6GHz cpu and running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Even the base price is the same at $179. However, the One Touch Evo 7 HD has the option to add a mobile data module. Two versions are available – 3G for $249 and 4G for $349.

Moving down a bit, mirroring the One Touch Tab 7 is the One Touch Evo 7. This 7-inch 1024 x 600 screen device carries 1GB of RAM, a single-core 1GHz cpu and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The mobile data option is not as impressive either with only an HSPA+21 module and Bluetooth 2.1. Pricing has not been announced for this model.

More news from Alcatel at CES 2013 this morning. Along with the new 5-inch smartphones they are planning to release, Alcatel is coming out with a trio of tablet devices. Alcatel indicates they will be released in the third quarter of 2013, loaded with Jelly Bean, but they will not have mobile data options to choose from.

Three different devices will be offered including:

  • One Touch Tab 7 HD – a 7-inch tablet running at 1280 x 800 resolution, this version will come equipped with 1GB of RAM and a dual-core 1.6GHz cpu. The device is expected to retail for $149 initially.
  • One Touch Tab 8 HD – a close sibling to the 7-inch version, this device steps things up to an 8-inch XGA screen running at 1024 x 768 resolution. Otherwise, the specs should be the same for this device that will retail for $179.
  • One Touch Tab 7 – the non-HD version of the devices, this will only run a 1024 x 600 TFT display and a single-core 1GHz cpu. It will not have a rear-facing camera and storage will be just 4GB. This bottom of the line device will retail for $129.

Both of the HD versions have 2MP rear facing cameras and a front-facing camera. All three devices have microSD slots.

Alcatel is intent on making a major splash at CES this week by not only revamping its brand perception from consumers, but waging war against other smartphone manufacturers in the ever-growing 5-inch smartphone market. The modest manufacturer has announced a couple of not-so-modest devices called the One Touch Scribe X and the One Touch Scribe HD-LTE. Each device will come fully loaded as they will feature a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, a full 5-inch 1080p HD display and a 12MP camera for starters. The main difference: the Scribe HD-LTE will feature an LTE radio on-board, while the Scribe X will not. Additionally, each smartphone will be complimented by some pretty neat accessories, which promise to greatly enhance the overall entertainment potential and capabilities

Looks like Alcatel is certainly on its way to bringing a compelling device that will take on the likes of HTC and other manufacturers out there. You’ll find more deets of the announcement when you hit the break and check out the full presser.
