Samsung_Galaxy_S_4_Active_Leak

We have certainly heard about the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active before, but we finally have a concrete idea of what to expect upon its imminent release in the immediate future. The design will not exactly be similar to the Galaxy S 4 smartphone, as it will feature an appealing and sporty red and black profile, as well as hard buttons below the display (sigh). Additionally, the device will feature a Snapdragon 600 1.9GHz quad-core processor + Adreno 320 GPU and a 5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display.

Unfortunately, there are still no other details regarding the device’s specs, nor are there concrete dates on when the device will be released (though we suspect it will be sometime in July), but here’s hoping we see something revealed sooner than later.

Galaxy_S_4_Mini_Leaks_Again

The Samsung Galaxy S 4 Mini has once again appeared online in photos, and some valuable news has also been leaked. The phone will apparently be almost as fast as the Galaxy S 4, as it will be powered by a 1.6GHz Exynos 5210 SoC, backed up by either 1GB or 2GB of RAM.

Rumors also reveal that the phone will feature a built-in IR blaster, meaning it will have remote control capabilities, allowing one to control a TV, set-top box, or a home theater system straight from the smartphone. The Galaxy S 4 Mini is also said to have a 4.3-inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 540 by 960 pixels.

The main camera will have 8MP of resolution, and a 2100mAh battery should keep the phone up and running throughout the course of the day. The phone is set for an official announcement on or around May 30th, which is when we should be hearing about the rumored Samsung Galaxy S 4 Activ and Samsung Galaxy S 4 Zoom as well.

Samsung Galaxy Note III to ship with a 6-inch, non-flexible glass OLED display

Samsung_Galaxy_Note_III_Leaked_Image

While a handful of rumors regarding the hotly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note III have been floating around the internet, the most speculation has been given to the device’s screen. Early rumors predicted that we’d see Samsung’s first flexible display, but with delays getting those to market it looks like that will not be the case. A report by an investment firm in South Korea says that the display on the Note III will be a 6-inch, non-flexible AMOLED screen, debunking other rumors that Samsung may introduce the world’s first plastic OLED display.

In the report it is speculated that Samsung is not ready to mass produce flexible OLED displays and are currently only capable of manufacturing 24,000 screens a month. LG, who had also hinted at a flexible device by year’s end, is reportedly also having problems mass-producing their flexible display.  » Read the rest

Samsung, LG and HTC rumored to have flagships in the works primed for Fall launch

by Roy Alugbue on

Samsung_HTC_LG_Fall_Flagships_2013

Despite the existence of the topnotch flagships Samsung Galaxy S 4, HTC One and LG Optimus G Pro smartphones for the first half of this year, it’s looking like the smartphone battle is going to heat up even further for the second half of 2013 by introducing a new wave of big heavy-duty devices. According to DigiTimes, the 3 manufacturers are keen on going head-on against the upcoming iPhone (iPhone 5S?) that’s due for arrival later in the year. Here’s a quick rundown of the expected devices and their alleged features:

Much of this we’ve already heard before, but it’s always exciting to get added follow-up confirmation from additional sources. All that’s left to do now for the masses is to simply play the waiting game and wait for inevitably more deets to leak out…

The Samsung Galaxy S 4 Zoom could be a cameraphone with a 16MP sensor

by Robert Nazarian on

I am not sure where the name “cameraphone” comes from, but if it’s a smartphone with a camera, isn’t it still a smartphone? Well SamMobile received some information regarding the Galaxy S4 Zoom, and they are calling it a camera phone, which doesn’t make sense. The bottomline is this is a smartphone that has a 16MP camera, a 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) Super AMOLED display, 8GB of storage, microSD slot for extra storage, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, A-GPS and Jelly Bean. No word on the processor or RAM, but don’t expect anything earth shattering.

It’s codename is SM-C1010, which means it might not be the same device that we reported last week. It’s expected to launch in June or July in both black and white, but I doubt we will see it till the later summer or after IFA 2013. We will certainly let you know more as soon as we find out.

TalkAndroid Weekly Recap for April 29 – May 5, 2013

TalkAndroid_Weekly_Recap

We had another busy week at TalkAndroid so here’s a recap of all the top stories. We finally published our review of the Galaxy S 4, and although the bootloader is locked on many variants, a solution is eminent. Probably the biggest story that didn’t get that much attention was the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S 4 was approved by the U.S. Department of Defense based on Samsung’s security suite called KNOX. This is only going to strengthen Samsung’s mobile market share dominance. Google Glass news was a plenty, and we saw what appears to be a real leak of the Motorola XFON. Lastly, will Paranoid Android be the ROM of choice with their new Halo notifications? It’s time to get caught up and get ready for another exciting week.

Samsung Galaxy S 4 Review: The smartest smartphone ever

Samsung_Galaxy_S_4_Main_TA

It’s spring time so it must mean another edition of the Galaxy S line. The Galaxy S 4 was introduced with some pomp and circumstance last month at Radio City Music Hall. The event itself didn’t get a lot of praise, but the fact that the design of the GS4 didn’t change all that much from last year’s Galaxy S III left some people even more disappointed. Samsung didn’t hold much back in terms of specs, but the GS4 has zero to do with that. It doesn’t even have anything to do with the quality of the build. It’s the software features. Samsung started promoting software features with the Galaxy S III, and they turned up the dial even more this year. The Galaxy S III proved to be the most successful Android phone ever, and Samsung has even bigger plans for the Galaxy S 4. Does it live up to the hype? Well skip on past the break to find out.

Samsung Galaxy Note III rumored to have octa-core processor, octa-core GPU, and 3GB of RAM

There’s some new information that has surfaced regarding Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note  III smartphone, courtesy of our friends at SamMobile. According to an insider, the upcoming phablet will come with all sorts of bells and whistles including a 5.99-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with diamond pixel structure, a 13MP camera, Exynos 5 octa-core chip with Mali 450 GPU (also featuring 8 cores), a whopping 3GB of RAM and the latest version of Android (presumably Android 4.3?). In other words— the device will roughly be a larger variation of the existing Samsung Galaxy S 4 smartphone. Design-wise, it is expected the G-Note III will follow a similar look to the Galaxy Mega 5.8, though the bezel will probably be reduced in order to accommodate the larger display— though no one knows yet if the device will feature the oh-so-mouthwatering flexible display technology we’ve been hearing more about lately.

While there’s no concrete date of the device’s release, it’s looking like we will see the device by late summer (August or September), so we’ll just have to sit tight and play the waiting game for now.

Sony introduces its Triluminous display technology, aims to square off direction again Super AMOLED and Retina Display technologies

by Roy Alugbue on

Sony_Xperia_Z_Talk_Android_

It’s certainly no secret that Sony plans to take over the mobile world, so it should come as no surprise that it has introduced what can be seen as some revolutionary technology. It went ahead and revealed its Triluminous display technology which aims to enhance the display of various devices to levels never seen before. Essentially, Triluminous display technology utilizes quantum dots (otherwise known as nanocrystals) that are so small, they have quantum properties and emits light just at preset wavelengths. The effect of this process i the significant enhancement of display factors like a larger color gamut to improved brightness and contrast.

Sony certainly can’t wait for this technology to arrive on its Xperia line of smartphones too. Here’s a Sony insider highlighting the important plans Sony has for this technology:

“During the interview, the heads of Sony Philippines likewise confirmed that Triluminos display will definitely come to the Sony Xperia smartphone line. This is cool because, as of writing, Sony is still using TFT panel even in its top of the line handset releases, including Sony Xperia Z. Triluminos will be the Japanese company’s answer to display technologies being offered by other companies like Retina Display and SuperAMOLED”.
