Pandora having spat with Froyo, problems processing audio

We’ve gotten a ton of notices from our readers out there that Froyo and Pandora aren’t exactly playing nice, and this writer can confirm the issue. I’ve got an HTC Hero running CyanogenMod 6 (Froyo based custom ROM), and the Pandora quality has been awful. Others on different handsets and carriers, with official and unofficial updates, are reporting the same. Pandora has even been notified of the issue. Their response:

Froyo has a problem processing our AAC+ files. We have confirmed that this is an issue in the OS, and they should have it fixed in the next Android release.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

Best Regards,

Pandora Listener Support

In other words, Pandora is throwing Google under the bus on the issue and leaving it up to the Android developers to fix the issue in the next iteration of Android. In my opinion, I can see this easily turning into a public argument between the two companies. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

Well I can definitely confirm the issue. I upg’d my DROID to 2.2 on Tuesday and have had Pandora audio quality issues ever since mentioned here ever since.

Funny thing though, Pandora is not doing the same thing the recent XM/Sirius client has been doing since its release for 2.1. However, I have not heard of anyone complaining about that app.

I just wanted to point out that after upgrading my HTC EVO 4G to Froyo I can’t read your newsletter -more explicitly, when I click on any of the links that supposedly takes me to the paragraph for that particular heading, the email client throws me to the browser and I get a 401 – Unauthorized Access error message. I have tried to find a solution to this problem online but can’t seem to find a solution. This happens with any newsletter I receive which has links to other parts of the same email message (reference links I think they are called).
Anyway -if you or anyone on this site can share some thoughts please reach me at asg749d at gmail dot come. Thanks!

I’ve had the same prob with Pandora audio quality after the 2.2 update. I even tried a system restore (an obvious waste if time) just to see the results. The audio quality is similar to that of a cassette.

Opening new windows online is sketchy as well. Sometimes the new window’s links are disabled as well as the scroll function. That particular problem is dominantly found on Facebook. HTC techs seem to be oblivious to these issues (tech support hotline).

    Sirius/XP here I come.
