LG Wants To Manufacture The Next Google Nexus Device, Ramchan Woo Says “We’re working on it.”

It looks like LG wants in when it comes to being the next manufacturer to be considered to deliver Google’s subsequent iteration in the Nexus lineup.  LG’s Ramchan Woo offered up to CNET the following:

“We’re heavily in discussions”  and “We’re working on it.”

Could LG be the next runner up?  After all, this is a heavily coveted position that any hardware manufacturer would love to be in.  They’ll be one of the first to get access to Google’s latest OS version and can easily trump the competition until a second device finally hits the market.  I think it would be a nice change of pace to see the Nexus branding on something other than a Samsung device.  And lets face it, LG could use this, as they haven’t really been able to stay in the smartphone spotlight for too long.  Their devices tend to impress on paper but once it’s actually in the hand, it’s an entirely different story.  We’ll see how their new “L” series devices pan out as well as the new Vu, but I still have my reservations as to whether or not the company can pull this off.  There’s no word yet on whether the company would run the new Jelly Bean OS or some other OS in the near future.  However, one thing has been made clear so far by Woo, there has been no commitment yet.  Stay tuned as we dig a little deeper and keep a close eye on Google and LG for a final decision on the matter.

LG doesn’t need to make a nexus to make a stock Android device. I’m a nexus owner but mostly my choice was based on getting the latest version of android. If LG finds a way to convince me that they can deliver updates quickly, I may not go with the nexus next time. I think they would need to go stock android to meet this requirement consistently though. If they don’t win the contract, they could at least convert some nexus owners into lg customers.

Lg making the next Nexus is like Kia making the next space shuttle. Lol. Of course they want (need) the google brand to save their sorry ass phones.
