Acer Android Phone Release ‘Likely’ In 2009

Acer’s head of mobile-phone products, Aymar de Lencquesaing, has revealed that the company plan to launch their first Android phone by the end of the year.

“We have not made any formal announcement of an Android- based device, although it’s likely that we’ll have one in 2009,” Aymar de Lencquesaing commented in a television interview today from Singapore. “We intend to have devices that will take advantage of multiple platforms.”

According to Aymar de Lencquesaing, Acer are planning on using their experience in both computers and mobile phones in order to offer products that sync data more easily between devices.

“One of the pain points for users around the world is ‘how do I basically port my environment from one device to another?’” de Lencquesaing said. “Because we have a suite of products in the mobile-data space that covers the whole spectrum, we can offer synchronization between all devices.”

Acer plan to launch around 10 new handsets during 2009 with the majority powered by Windows Mobile software.
