Brazilian Galaxy S Gets TV Tuning Capabilities

The Brazilian version of the Samsung Galaxy S has a unique twist to it. This version has TV Tuning capabilities and an integrated antenna to capture TV signals. Everything else about the Brazilian Galaxy S is the same as any other Galaxy S phone. I am curious on why only this version has the TV tuner. Is it because the networks there cannot keep up with the speeds needed to stream video? Too bad there are not versions like this for other countries. I would love to see one in the U.S. with the ability to receive digital TV signals.

Here in Brazil, there is great demand for smartphones with digital TV and two
chips for different operators. Digital TV is a novelty in the country and
being deployed in major cities since 2009, generating
curiosity in the population and hence the search for products
support technology as car DVD players, GPS and cell phones.

The thing is: mobile internet in Brazil is too expensive. And you have FULL HD Digital TV signal in the big cities. So, why not?

Digital TV signal is Brazil is free, because we use the japanese broadcast system for open channels.
Also, open channels are stronger than cable TV here in Brazil. So it’s a strong and new feature for us.
This feature has been around for about 2 years now over here, but not in smartphones.
This will be the first high-end phone to get this feature. It’s great! I have a Samsung Galaxy and I would have this one…
