Instantly Open URL’s From Your Phone in Chrome

Have you ever been checking out a really cool website on your phone and then realized some cool feature would just be way better on a computer? If you have then you probably also realized how much of a pain it is to try and get to that same page from your computer. Sure you can email yourself the link, or something similar, but really there is no excuse for such clunky functionality. Well worry no longer. Android2cloud is an app that fixes this problem quickly and elegantly; once you install the app and the Google Chrome extension and verify both clients, you can simply ‘share’ the page from your phone to the app and it opens the tab on your computer! Pretty slick huh? Let us know what you think in the comments!

this is a great, useful service…but it won’t work with my account on my Google Apps-enabled domain. it isn’t a shortcoming of the app…Google apparently doesn’t support such accounts in the Chrome extension. big bummer. :(

Chrometophone is similar, but is actually the exact opposite of this app. Chrometophone sends the page from your computer to your phone while this app goes from your phone to your computer.

in my experience, the restriction of the service on Google Apps accounts exists in the Chrome extension, so any services built around it would be subject to the same restrictions. however, since it’s open source, i may be able to rewrite it just for my domain. THAT rocks. :)

Jason: It’s a shortcoming of Google’s App Engine. As soon as Full Accounts roll out (sometime soon, I hear) you’ll be able to use it. But yes, you can build your own server that works just for your own domain, right now. There’s a page on it in the project wiki.

hi Paddy. is App Engine the source of the error? it might be…but my Google Apps-enabled domain isn’t able to use most of the services (i.e., Groups, Buzz, MyMaps, etc.) thanks for the info! :)

The source of the error is how Google is handling accounts right now. As far as I know, a Google Account and a Google Apps Account are two entirely different beasts. Not the same thing at all.

When making an App Engine server, however, you can tell it to recognise your Apps accounts, not Google accounts. Which would let you use something like this with your domain. :)

Would like to see a Dolphin plugin so that a gesture would send the current page to my Chrome. ;) Can’t wait to try it out. Thank you!
