With all the hype of the upcoming Droid 2 that Verizon has been building up as of late, two smartphone offerings from Samsung have gone relatively unnoticed. Known also as the Samsung Captivate, and the Samsung Vibrant, Verizon’s offering of the Galaxy S will be touted as the Samsung Fascinate. Why they are choosing all of these different names for essentially the same phone is beyond me, I always was a sucker for standardization, but that’s just me. The main differentiating feature here is the metallic body that adds some shimmery flare to the sleek casing. Otherwise it is the same stuff; the 4″ AMOLED, 1GHz Hummingbird, etc. etc. somewhere around $200.
Next up is a phone that has flown a little more under the radar: the Samsung Gem. This upcoming smartphone will reportedly be running Android with a Touchwiz 3.0 overlay. No word on Froyo. The Gem will be an entry-level offering and will probably launch by the end of the month.
