According to a pie graph over at the Android Developers Blog, Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 are now taking up 64.2% of Android handsets. The total numbers are broken up as follows:

  • 2.1 – 59.7%
  • 1.6 – 20.3%
  • 1.5 – 15.3%
  • 2.2 – 4.5%

The good news is that this brings the numbers for Froyo up from the last time we saw this chart by 1.2%. As these numbers keep improving and eventually start leaning towards 2.2 being the dominant OS, then we should hopefully start seeing the end to the fragmentation that has been plaguing Android users.

What do you think about this? Make sure to let us know in the comments.

Slight typo there? In your conclusion, surely you meant 2.1 was the dominant varient, not 2.2? 2.1 is most found as most HTC Hero owners have upgraded now.

I have a few concern with the new software update, don’t know if it’s just me or the phone itself.I used to have swipe keyboard on my HTC Evo when I had the 2.1 work flawlessly but now, with the new update 2.2 froyo, my swipe keyboard completely stop. I still can used the keyboard method by typing but not swipe my fingers across the screen. If anybody know what’s the cause of it can you please let me know. I’m so used to swipe it seem like I’m malfunction without it

The sooner they can chuck these updates out, the sooner we can all be close to 90% 2.2 ;)
