This picture was uploaded early Friday morning on twitpic by metabaron. Supposedly the device being held in the middle of the picture is a tablet being released by Samsung, being known for now as the GalaxyTab (at least it’s not the GalaxyPad). Samsung just recently confirmed that they were working on releasing a tablet by Q3 of this year but only said that it would be a 7″ slate and be running some version of Android. I’m going to believe that it will be 2.2, only because 2.1 is quickly becoming old news with updates being rolled out to many phones in the next few weeks.
Another picture of the tablet shows some strong similarities to Samsung’s flagship Android smartphone, the Galaxy S series. This may start to become a theme with manufacturers for smartphones and tablets, just making a larger version of one of their smartphones and increasing it’s size until it is called a tablet. It worked for Apple, so you should probably expect other companies to follow.
There has been no other news of the tablet, but if the device is supposed to be released by Q3 – which means by the end of August – I would expect another announcement from Samsung in the next couple weeks.
