The time has come for an updated Android Distribution Chart to arrive for our eyes. As you already know, Google releases these charts periodically to showcase which operating systems are being used by the everyday Android user— for development purposes of course. As you can see in the above chart, Gingerbread (55.5%) and Froyo (30.4%) holds majority shares of the Android pie, but do you notice anything different? Ice Cream Sandwich makes its first appearance in the chart, albeit holding a rather small share (0.6% of all Android devices are operating Android 4.0 – 4.0.3). This places Android 4.0 into a last-place tie with Android 1.5 (Cupcake)… for now.
I’m sure you’re wondering how Google obtained all of the statistics, right? Basically Google measured the type of operating systems of the devices based on when devices accessed the Android Market within a 14-day period ending on January 3, 2012. Pretty neat huh? Let us know what Android platform and team you’re rocking with in the Comments below. This is your chance for those of you rocking Cupcake and Donut to finally let your voices be heard.
