LG Set To Bring Intel-Based Phone To CES 2012

LG has announced it will debut an Intel-based Android smartphone at CES 2012. The phone will feature Intel’s new flagship mobile chip, the Medfield SoC (System on a Chip). While no one knows what will be the exact specs of the Intel-based phone just yet, the processor is expected to be a screamer. Impressive benchmarks highlight the Medfield processor trumping the current competition– namely the Tegra 2, Exynos and the Snapdragon chips— and while the results were preliminary, the performance of the Medfield chip certainly looked promising. Of course the Medfield is compared to fairly aging processors, so we’re curious to see how it stacks up to a certain NVIDIA quad-core processor, a certain line of upcoming Qualcomm processors and a certain Sammy-based quad-core processor. With LG’s history of putting together great hardware in its handsets (LG’s software selection is another story) and Intel’s instant name recognition, we’ll bet this new partnership and phone will ultimately be a success.

Sources for the Korea Times believe the phone could be released as early as March 2012. Of course LG and Intel previously announced a phone that should have been released earlier this year, but hey 2012 is a new year and perhaps a fresh start for the LG and Intel partnership. Stay tuned with Talk Android for more details of the mysterious phone.
