I guess the blogosphere and consumers can make a difference. Just yesterday, Verizon Wireless announced that next month they would start charging a convenience fee of $2.00 for online and telephone payments. Uproar immediately ensued and petitions were even started. There were even reports that the FCC was starting to investigate. Verizon just made an about face by announcing they will not institute the fee afterall.

“At Verizon, we take great care to listen to our customers. Based on their input, we believe the best path forward is to encourage customers to take advantage of the best and most efficient options, eliminating the need to institute the fee at this time,” said Dan Mead, president and chief executive officer of Verizon Wireless.

Now if they would only bring back one-year contracts.
