comScore, famous for measuring the digital world released data from the comScore MobiLens service today. It reports key trends in the U.S. mobile phone industry during a three month average period that ended in November 2011. During the study, more than 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers were surveyed and it was found that Samsung was still the top dog handset manufacturer overall with 25.6% of the market share. Also Google’s Android platform continued its push in capturing the most market share topping out at 46.9%.
234 Million Americans age 13 and older used mobile devices during this three month average and the tables seem pretty self-explanatory. They show where each of the respective companies were in August 2011, and where they are as of November 2011, followed by the percentage spread. Some of the more interesting facts were the fact that 33% of the U.S. folks polled use their phones for social networking and that more folks are starting to use their phones as a music player.
So if you are interested in seeing how the numbers breakdown, hit the break below to check the tables out. While we don’t know what December has in store for stats but my guess is that it continues to have the same trend as it did in July and August. Even with Android having more than 40% of the market share since June who knows what will happen in the future; maybe it will jump higher with the release of the Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich a few weeks ago or maybe Apple, RIM, or Microsoft will come out with something groundbreaking at CES or in 2012 that Android is left in the dust. Only time will tell.
