Google: Developers From Over 70 Countries Submitted 1,788 Entries To The Android Developer Challenge

android_small_image.jpgGoogle have released some of the submission details to their recently expired Android Developer Challenge. In a blog posting on the official Google Android blog, Google revealed that as the April 14th deadline loomed they were receiving submissions at a rate of over 170 applications an hour.

I'm thrilled to share the news that developers from over 70 countries submitted 1,788 entries to the Android Developer Challenge! - Azhar Hashem, Product Marketing Manager for Android.

The android team also commented on the next stage of the selection process. A group of 100 judges will be sent judging packets and laptops preloaded with the submissions received by Google. The judging panel will be comprised of member companies of the Open Handset Alliance.

In May, 50 Semi-finalists who will be awarded $25,000 each to further develop their winning Android applications.
