Verizon on the Galaxy Nexus: “Verizon will not release a device until our highest standards have been met.”

by Robert Nazarian
tagged ,

Word on the street is the Galaxy Nexus is ready to do. Verizon, Best Buy, and Radio Shack stores supposedly have them ready to go and just waiting for the word to take our credit cards. Is it because of a software glitch or something to do with Google Wallet? Nobody is certain, but The Verge is reporting that a Verizon rep said his store recieved the following statement from Verizon:

“Rigorous device testing is part of our commitment to our customers. Verizon will not release a device until our highest standards have been met. We’ll announce the launch of the Galaxy Nexus by Samsung as soon as it’s available.”

Take it with a grain of salt because it doesn’t give us any insight on when this baby is going to drop. Our latest rumor is this Thursday, but until Verizon makes this public, any statement from an “insider” means nothing.

What do google and Samsung have to say about this accusation that they have delivered a phone that is not ready for prime time?

  • Anonymous

Then how did the thunderbolt, and bionic get launched with their huge list of bugs?? And if the phones weren’t ready why waste the time and money shipping them to stores?

  • Curt

Who in the hell is this person kidding?

Lets see, the Bionic would not activate if it was located in a 3g area (no 4g available), the Bionic has a problem losing network connection between 3g and 4g, the Razr has a problem with SIM cards, the Droid X has a problem with SD Cards in Gingerbread. Motorola has a history of problems with their Droid phones lately, so they have been extensively tested? Give me a fucking break.

Verizon is looking for anything that they can do to delay the Nexus. They want more Razr sales because Motorola is their favorite. Samsung already came out to say the Nexus is ready for prime time on Verizon, but it’s Verizon’s decision when they drop it on us.

Verizon keeps screwing around, ATT will release their version before Verizon, and you will see a LOT of people leaving.

Given the games that Verizon is playing with putting their logo on the back, installing bloatware, blocking Google Wallet, and forcing Motorola and other OEMs to lock their bootloaders,

I’d say it is far more accurate to say that Verizon doesn’t release a phone until they’ve played their entire hand of bullshit.

    • Nonexus4u

So no way to use NFC payments until verizon gets its nonexistent payment service on the phone which wont even go into testing till next year? The only security issue is vzw’s financial security to make money off the service. Fuck you Verizon, RELEASE THE NEXUS

It’s not the best of news or the worst of news, but at least it’s news. Very few things spread around recently have actually been from Verizon, so despite it not telling us anything, it’s at least nice to hear it from the horse’s mouth. Even if the horse didn’t intend for us to hear it, lol.

HA! If that’s true Verizon’s standards must be lower than Courtney Love’s because the first LTE phones had some serious issues.

    • Anonymous

Courtney Love has standards?  Who knew???  LOL

  • Kayjay45

That seriously sounds like some stuck up bullshiit if I Eva heard such.. I’m not even with Verizon and I’m kinda offended with that response..smh

  • http://twitter.com/ScottSanders4 Scott Sanders

yeah, to the highest standard, just like the Bionic was realeased at the “highest standard”….yeah right

  • Robwscottsdale

Wow…the Droid 3 and Bionic were released with a shi*load of bugs….and both phones had to have extensive ‘bug fix’ software updates. I’ll bet that it’s the Google Wallet’ thing….Verizon has a competing payment service and doesn’t want Google Wallet on a phone they will represent. Verizon has really good service, but they are so draconian as a company. No release dates, no advance news on upcoming phones from them directly…

until highest standards….what about the thunderbolt??? or should i say Thundercrap! im calling BS on this one verizon!

I was going to wait for the verizon Gnex, but they took too long in releasing it, so i bought one from the UK and that was 2 weeks ago. So i stayed on t-mobile with my gsm Gnex. I feel bad for you verizon guys . Seriously i do. Theyve completely botched this launch . I dont understand why verizon has to try and ruin every great aspect of a nexus device. I do understand why they never had one before though.

    • Spanky

Same here. I was getting ready to switch to Verizon for the GNex, until they completely botched the launch. I ordered a GSM version and stayed with T-Mobile. Had Verizon released the phone in a timely manner (or, at least, communicated with customers instead of adapting the silent policy), they would have had another 2-line subscriber.

  • Bstringy

It’s time for Google to buy TMobile, setup a revolutionary business model and put an end to the US carrier bullsh|t.

This is crap. I got one for at&t bands. I can tell you what the standard is. The standard of not being able to sell the other Androids except to complete suckers. This phone is hands down the best Android phone I’ve ever used. No one in their right mind is going to want the other Android imposters after having this bad boy.

  • Ncydout

Hey nory826: Feel bad for us? Why? When we do get our Galaxy Nexus devices we’ll be on the fastest network in the U.S., while you’re stuck on a wannabe 4G network  ;)

It’s like owning a sweet sports car that is forever stuck on speed bump ridden streets. The device its-self is only half the experience, your network is the other half.

Besides, the Galaxy S II HD will be releasing so soon after the Galaxy Nexus, that it isn’t the prime buy most people think it is. Not to mention there’s a chance we may still see a Galaxy Note U.S. debut

    • Anonymous

Wow, ok, that was a completely childish response by you. All i was trying to say was i was sympathetic. I know how bad people want this phone, and you have every right to, because it is that badass of a device. But to try to insult me for the network that i did buy mine for is uncalled for and completely childish. You sound like a little kid. In Philadelphia, where i live, i see more than respectable hspa+ speeds between 10mb- 15mb down and 2mb – 3mb up.So have a good/night and hopefully you’ll be able to get you LTE Galaxy Nexus , and you can stop being bitter to people because we already own the device. ;)

I hope Google has learned to never do an exclusive with Verizon again.  Maybe next time Google could be “open” and provide it on multiple carriers.  The iPhone does it now, and they don’t completely bow to the carriers (installing crapware, removing features, etc).

It’s worst news and don’t know why Verizon playing waiting game every time with demanding handsets!

  • Annoyed Verizon Customer

For a company that completes such “rigorous device testing,” you would think the phone would have already met Verizon’s “highest standards” prior to being shipped out to stores.  I suspect someone is getting fired.  That, or this is a lame excuse on Verizon’s part.

I think it’s bullshit that Verizon opted out of the GS2 in order to have exclusivity on this phone, knowing FULL WELL it was going to be Google’s flagship for ICS – which includes Wallet – only to turn around and block it when it’s ready to launch. Denying it now for some made-up excuse about security, when everyone knows it presents a conflict-of-interest with their own investment in ISIS, is a load of crap. I can *maybe* understand the volume button issue (which to my knowledge has been fixed), or an LTE conflict (perhaps something to do with last weeks 4G crash), or even stalling until Adobe releases Flash support for ICS. But those are all pretty pathetic excuses to hold off releasing a phone that is already available pretty much everywhere else in the world. I don’t even really care so much about the delay, if it’s for a good reason – but this lack total of communication whatsoever is incredibly irritating.

If I wasn’t locked into keeping my unlimited data plan (Grandfathered ftw) I would seriously consider dropping Big Red for a more ethical provider.

everyone should boycott verizon. phone companies will see their phones are not selling through verizon and they’ll switch to a more compentant and cheaper carrier. all future launches will be on time and with it’s intended apps preloaded and bootloader unlocked. internet/tv/phone customers should also boycott and choose another provider that doesn’t want to destroy net neutrality. then verizon goes out of business and is bought out by some other carrier and we have world peace, second coming of christ and avoid armageddon in 2012 and global warming will fix itself. LOL

  • Nyctenor

what’s with the grammar on these internet stories…no one is editing them?
    what does this mean?:
“Word on the street is the Galaxy Nexus is ready to do.”

    HUH?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_KF5RV5WV25S46VXXIGVXYYZMYQ My 2 cents

So many just cannot wait, and are getting a Razr or a Rezound……. Neither of those phones really suck, but Ice Cream  wont be coming to either until the second half of next year.  The Nexus may not be the end all be all of cellular devices, but its a Google phone with Ice Cream Sandwich that will recieve timely updates.  That is why everyone should take a deep breath, relax, and when Verizon finally gets around to letting us give them our money, enjoy it!  My Dinc is ready for the trash, but I will be a good boy and wait for the Nexus.  Happy holiday’s all.

my god, verizon must have the biggest pussies ever working in the device release part of their bullshit hierarchy …
