After a successful trial period o2 have stopped distinguishing their phones as either pre pay (Pay as you go) and post pay (contract) and the entire catalogue of handsets (with the exception of Blackberry and Palm, Blackberry is set to launch pay and go in the coming months) is available pay as you go , this means that all handsets are now locked to o2, and they no longer sell sim-free.
You can now purchase the HTC Desire (£319.99), Sony Ericcson Experia X10 (£399.99) or the X10 Mini/Mini Pro (£179.99) not a bad proposition for those who don’t want to be tied down to lengthy contracts, and allows owners to take one of the better value sim only deals.
Obviously some of the smart-phones are more expensive than others, but this certainly opens up the choice for pay as you go customers and finally represents another option for smartphone ownership.
At the moment this has gone live in-store only.
