A Look At A Handful Of The Android Developer Challenge Entries

To mark the closing day of the Android Developer Challenge we thought we'd cover some of the contest entries that have been emailed into us here at TalkAndroid. If you've submitted an Android creation and want us to cover it, feel free to drop us a line.

Here's a brief rundown of some of the most interesting Android applications we've come across since the contest started.

gWeather

gWeather uses a combination of weather applications and inteligent end user controls to provide needed weather information in an intuitive and efficient manner.

gWeather uses Android's GPS API's providing the end user with weather forecasts from whatever location they find themselves.

The application also supports a number of weather services including NOAA.com, Weather.com, Acuweather.com and the Google Weather API.

Bubbles!

Bubbles! is an application that enables the user to create 'point of presence' (pop) broadcasts from your mobile device. Users in close proximity to each other (50m) will be able to see each other's 'pops', ofcourse as you move around so does your pop. Kind of like a real-world roaming twitter.

A pop is anonymous and consists of a message and a nick name that you choose for yourself. The developer notes that new versions of the application will also include the ability to assign 'pops' to specific locations for other users to come across and read.

Enkin

Enkin is a handheld navigational application. The software displays location based content in an effort to bridge the gap between reality and traditional map representations. Combining the use of GPS, orientation sensors, 3D imagery, live video and several other web based services, Enkin's user interface provides an intuitive and simple navigation system for mobile devices.
