Samsung pokes fun at Apple in new ad [Video]

Samsung’s latest Galaxy S II ad seems to have just hit YouTube. In it Samsung mocks those waiting in line for the latest Apple iPhone. It’s along the lines of what we saw from Motorola earlier this year. To be honest, after watching, I initially felt the ad was a bit in bad taste. Why bring Apple into their ad at all? Perhaps Samsung wasn’t so sure about it either, seeing as how this quite official looking ad is not uploaded to the official Samsung YouTube channel. Then, I got to thinking. Apple routinely pulls smear campaigns, perhaps most famous, “I’m a Mac & I’m a PC.” If they can do it why can’t another company. So right on Samsung! Take a bat to the hornets nest of iOwners. After all the hell Apple has put them through lately, I’m happy to see them still smug as ever.

To us Android fans, this one was a treat for sure, but as a potential TV spot, I don’t feel that Samsung highlighted their product as in depth as they usually do. It’s no secret that Apple is in the position they are today in no small part to mere marketing. That being said, how would you rate the effectiveness of this ad campaign? Is it going to appeal to new consumers and converts or is it just entertainment for Android fans? Check it out for yourself below and add your thoughts in the comments.

This will, or at the very least should, win an award. Epic.

This commercial is not about highlighting Galaxy features. Rather it’s about overcoming every argument there is in favor of ‘small-display, non-4G devices’. It addresses them all one by one and quite effectively in my opinion, aiming square at the fashion conscious. “How are people going to know I upgraded if it looks the same”?

Lol, Apple vs Samsung is like watching two kids in a playground having a fight, its childish yet funny. If only Apple would realise the best way to hurt Samsung and android would be to actually make a good phone! To be fair, even if they did, I still wouldn’t want it.

You’re acting exactly like an Apple fanboy would. They *do* make a good phone, it’s stupid to deny it. I had an iPhone for a long time before I switched to Android, and I loved it. I prefer my S2, but that doesn’t mean everything else is crap.

Why am I acting like an Apple Fanboy? I ripped on the iPhone twice in 3 and a bit lines! I’m on my 5th Android phone at the moment and I also have 2 tablets. The only Mac product I have ever owned was the stupidly big 21″ Mac Book Pro they ha out a decade ago and that was when their computers were good and orientated towards designers. Now they are aimed at idiots and fools with too much money.

I meant you’re acting like a fanboy, criticizing concurrency without even acknowledging its good side. You really think if the iPhone has that much success it’s only because of marketing genius for a crappy product? You should try to use one. So you prefer Android? Fine, me too. But why does that make everything else crap? Your world is so black and white it must be terrifying living in your shoes.

I think such ads are highly important.
To gain even more marketshare, you need to break than coolish ban on Apple products. The products sell, because people THINK they are sexy, cool and what not ever.
Something the competition has missed to establish for years. Now PR and the coolness of Android has to put on the spot. This ad can just be a beginning. But at least someone is doing it.

I thought the comments of the Apple Fanboy/girls was very funny…… Especially the battery life comment, the 4g comment, and the huge display comment.

The comment about how would someone know I upgraded when it looks the same was a good one also.

I Agree. iPhone 4S looks similar with its predecessor, yet people still loves it because of it’s brand–Apple. Sometimes it is good to discover and open new possibles which other devices can give.

Agreed. I was so disappointed by the lack of iPhone5 that I moved to Android, and I’m so happy with my S2 that I wished I had done it sooner ;)
