General Motors first showed off this app at the 2010 CES which is a handy extension of your OnStar system. In case you are not familiar with OnStar, it is a feature built into some GM cars that allow for remote diagnostics, unlocking, emergency services and more.

The Android app gives you the ability to start, unlock, and view diagnostic information such as fuel levels (or batter levels as well if your vehicle is an electric hybrid), tire pressure, usage details, and other useful tools. The new expansion for the app has been updated to include many of the new 2011 GM models available now.

I personally do not own a car with OnStar so I cannot comment on the usability of it. Have any of you used this app? We would love to hear what you think of it.

GM directed all of their dealers to a site where we can download and play with the app and get an idea of functionality pre-release. All I can do with it is push the button to lock and unlock doors on my pretend Chevy Volt. The app is not on the Android market yet and no one has said when we’ll be getting the real thing for sure.

Wish I could try this on my 2011 Chevy but my V1.6 Android does not see it in the marketplace.
Anybody have the .apk so I can install and try it?
Most apps I ve tried that “need” 2.x work just fine or occasional crash only.

I have a new 2011 Buick Regal which allows me to use this app. The app itself is kinda useful, I have a manual transmission in my car, so I cannot remotely start the car…all I can do is lock/unlock (which causes the clock to reset btw)….it would be nice if it would roll down my windows…but that function is not available.

The app lets me check fual leval, tire pressure and oil lifetime…it’s supposed to notify me when any any error codes pop up…I haven’t seen if this function works or not.

There is a companion “Buick” app, that allows me to contact a dealer, schedule service and to look a the manual (sort of)
