Update: I still love the battery. I keep GPS on all the time and use Locale to manage turning Wifi on and off. The phone is so much more useful now. BTW, try the NEW locale, it lets you set up WHO can call WHEN, as well as WHERE you are when they’re allowed to “ring-thru.”

Tim, that really isn’t as big of a deal as you might think. The lens, like on all HTC phones, is sealed pretty well against contamination. At most, the surface of the lens will just get a bit dirty, but a quick swipe with a proper cleaning cloth should solve that. Plus, the raised cavity should protect the lens from most abrasive objects (aside from sand, etc.). Anyway, just FYI. Enjoy your purchase! ^_^

P.S. there is also no protection over the lens of the camera with the new back cover. It is just open to dust and dirt can get inside the phone.

I ordered this battery a couple days ago. First, it does make the phone a bit bigger, but i found that it is easier to use and handle. Also, the back cover that it comes with is slightly a different color black. It does make the phone a little quieter also because the speaker isnt flush with the back anymore. The battery lasts MUCCHH longer now, and that is the main concern for me. I’m overall pretty happy with it.

Just to let you know, I mentioned previously I got the largest capacity battery from Seidio for my AT&T Tilt. It also came with a custom battery cover like the one displayed here. I wouldn’t say that the construction is crap, but the plastic does indeed feel flimsy and a couple of the retaining hooks have already broken off in the course of normal wear and tear. Even when it was whole, it was way too easy for the cover to simply pop with the slightest nudging because the dimensions of the hooks were not precise enough. Hopefully, this won’t be the case for you, Ben, but please do write back with you experience in the next few days! ^_^

3 DAYS! I just got the Seidio battery and I’m happy! the phone now lasts three days between charges with a good amount of use. I can leave all the features on and not have to worry about being able to make phone calls. The battery makes the G1 a lot bigger, but doesn’t add any perceptible weight. If they wanted this to be perfect, they should have made the battery shaped like a hat, with the head part fitting down into the battery compartment, and the “brim” taking up the whole back of the phone. Then the battery could have been bigger, OR the back wouldn’t have to add so much depth to the phone. Maybe that can’t be done. But 3 days!!!! Yahoo!!
