Motorola Droid X having wifi connectivity problems

According to an article over at Boy Genius Report, there is a lot of talk going on that the Droid X is being plagued by wifi issues. Owners of the device are reporting the following:

  • Difficulty connecting to wifi routers
  • Poor network performance

Some people are saying that you can fix up some of the performance issues by changing your router encryption from AES to TKIP, and some state that moving to wireless G instead of wireless N has cleaned up their issues.

Are any of you out there having wifi issues with the Droid X? Let us know in the comments!

Neither my husband nor I can connect to our home wifi (WEP) We can connect to wifi at work (WPA).

When I connect to my home wifi router with the Droid X it knocks my computer (also connected wirelessly) off the network. The other computer reports that “another computer is using the same ip address.

can’t keep my X connected to wireless routers since my froyo update earlier this week. it finds and connects to the networks just fine but constantly drops them and tries to reconnect. any suggestions?

I am having problems also. My Droid X says it is connected, but it will not connect to any websites, saying that the “Web page is not available” no matter what site it is. I am not inclined to make many changes to my router, since I use my home computers wirelessly.

okay my wifi worked perfectly on any router then i up dated to the 2.2 system lost my market app so i factory reset it then my wifi stopped working at home but still works well at school. dont know how to fix the problem

Just got the Droid X. Wifi was working fine for a while. Then it stopped working. It happened while I was on the phone. I got the same message as above saying “web page not available.” I turned wireless off then on again and it started working again. Definitely sounds like a bug to me. I’ll sure be annoyed till they fix this. At least I have a workaround. Hopefully it will work for others too.

Ditto to Forrest. I had a “Market App Error” Verizon did a factory reset and now wifi isn’t working at home but works at the school I work at. Help please!

Yes I have the same exact issue. Since the 2.2 update I cannot connect to the APs at my work. Since I work for a rather large company changing settings or security isn’t an option.

    FIXED:

My HTC EVO has always had problems staying connected to my home wifi router. The router was set up to use WPA2-PSK AES

Switching it to TKIP seems to have fixed it.

What a stupid bug. Unbelievable they ship with that. There are other annoyances too like selecting thread A in Messages and being given thread B. Or selecting a thread of messages in vertical position and quickly rotating to horizontal while the thread is being pulled up, then being stuck way at the top of the thread with no way to add/reply a new message. You have to first rotate, then select the thread. Idiots.

If it weren’t for tethering, 4G and being off of AT&T, I would go back to iPhone.

I have Wifi issues all the time, it is so so so incredibly frusting. I refuse to lower my security to 64 bit WEP encryption, as it is easy to crack. I currently have a Netgear WNR3500L that is in bridge mode to my Verizon Actiontec router MI424WR. The wifi is only on on my netgear. I had this issue with both routers (I was previously only using my FiOS router)My home doesnt get the best 3G coverage, so when my wifi goes out, my internet is subpar at best. Not to mention having to toggle my wifi connection approx. every 10 minutes (on a good day) for it to reconnect. Streaming? Forget about it. AES+TKIP lowers the connection speed since it is a hybrid of N/G, and I have been living with this for 3 months. SInce day 1, I have even reset (hard reset) my phone. Problem still existed. Also I have recorded videos that say “there is an error playing” and I assume they are corrupt. 720p doesn’t matter if I can’t see it. Stop the bloatware and implement some good software updates.. Oh yeah, use real emoticons too, I havent seen ;-) since my LG “dumb” phones. I like my phone, I know though, that I *could* love it.

I can connect to my wifi on my X but it only stays connected for a little bit. Only have this problem at home tho. Also im confused because my home router is Motorola? You would think the two would work flawlessly

I just got a Motorola Flipside and have spent several days trying to connect to my home wifi. Ridiculous that it does not seem to take the WPA. It finds and connects to the wifi, but will not allow internet access. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Motorola is the only vendor of a physical keyboard phone for AT&T so I am stuck unless I give up the keyboard. Had an HTC Inspire from ATT and it connected fine to my home wifi. I HATE changing phones–especially when the products are a crap shoot.

Droix X WiFi connectivity problem finally fixed
I have had a wifi connectivity problem since I bought my droid x over a year ago. The phone would connect; try to obtain an IP address; then disconnect. It would continuously repeat this cycle. I finally found a fix that truly did remedy the problem. There is a free app that you can download from MARKET. It’s called FXR WiFi fix and rescue, by Brilliapps. I’ve tried several other apps. This one actually fixed my problem so that now I can connect to my WPS secured router at home, and I can now also connect to a public (open) wifi site. BRAVO!
