Verizon DROID Incredible owners have a reason to celebrate today or scratch their heads. While it was a long time coming, a mysterious VZW 4.08.605.2 build has been released to owners of the device today. What’s the signifcance you ask? The update is only 8.6MB meaning it’s unlikely that it will include a certain sweet treat. Of course we expected a significant update to be here a few months ago, but hey any update is great, right? Users can expect to see improved Bluetooth connectivity, resolved issue with SMS due to low memory and voice commands among the noteworthy features.

We know it’s been a long wait for you DROID Incredible owners. If your phone is non-rooted and you’re ready for some updated goodness, check for the update immediately (Settings –> About Phone –> System Updates). If the update is not immediately available, then just be patient and check again later or wait for the phone to automatically be pushed to your phone. Hit the break to see the full change log and let us know if the update does indeed include a little Gingerbread action or not in the Comments section.

I received this update and went to sleep while it finished. I awoke this morning to find my phone does not work at all. My phone is not rooted and i don’t know what to do about this. I tried taking out the battery and putting it back in but that didn’t work. Any suggestions?

I seem to have gotten a “4.06.605.3 CL140944 release-keys” build this morning. However, I do note that my Android version has been updated to 2.3.4, which finally gives me Gingerbread. I don’t see any difference in the interface though.

I got the “4.06.605.3 CL140944 release-keys” update to Gingerbread as well. There are a number of subtle changes to icons, much improved application manager, zippier performance, etc. but obviously the fixes listed above are not present. It choked on apps that have data on the SD card until I unmounted and remounted it, the Android Market has the “Sprint” section, my screen size is listed at 4.3″. So it seems that a bunch of us are an update behind.

Odd that Verizon would update in two stages… I had 4.06.603.3 waiting for me when I awoke yesterday morning (11/15), and eagerly updated my Incredible. About 3AM THIS morning (11/16), my notification tone sounded with news that I had yet another update. Upon rising for the day, I saw that 4.08.605.2 was ready for my phone. ??
BTW, a couple lessons learned on the updates–I’ll pass these along to make someone else’s life easier:
    (1) If you have apps moved over to your SD card, move them back to your phone before doing either update. I didn’t do this the first time, and had to reload nearly all these apps. I got wise the second time, and the update was much less painful. You can move the apps back to the SD after the update.
    (2) I had problems on both updates with the “Location” Shortcut–allows switching on/off the VZW/GPS/Google Location Services from the desktop. After both updates, when I punched this shortcut I got a dialog box, “Sorry! The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. [Force Close]” To fix this I had to delete and reinstall the Location Shortcut: Long Press on Desktop, Add to Home/Shortcut/Settings/Location. The reinstalled shortcut works without problem.
