Last night on Fox’s Business Network, the world was treated to a short Galaxy Nexus demo by Samsung’s V.P. of Product Planning, Nick DiCarlo. While nothing new was revealed in regards to US pricing and availability, DiCarlo gave viewers a quick peek at a few of the more talked about features to be expected when Android 4.0 finally arrives.
Although DiCarlo claimed to have been warned not to try and demonstrate the new face unlock feature on live television, he went ahead and did so anyway. Not only did the the facial recognition unlock go off without a hitch, he managed to successfully demonstrate ICS’s new real-time voice dictation feature also.
The hosts of After the Bell said they have heard nothing but good reports and were so impressed by the demo that they wanted to know when they could get one and how much it would cost. DiCarlo was reluctant to release any information and said to expect the device “just a little bit later this year” and dodged the price inquiry with “well, hopefully Verizon will let us know very soon; It’s their phone, you know”. Talk about passing the buck, Nick!
Although the US pricing hasn’t been revealed, I am willing to bet money on a $299 price tag on a 2-year contract. As for the release date? I am stumped on this one, I have heard way too many theories for me to bet on that horse. Hopfeuly damn soon though!
If the video gets pulled, check it out here.
