Now, this… this is awesome. According to an article over at engadget, they have a source that is telling them that the yet-to-be-released Droid 2 will be launching August 12th (although the marketing strategy doesn’t seem to be as big as other Droid line launches), and may come complete with a Star Wars edition, featuring our good old buddy R2-D2 on the back. That’s right, it looks like the Droid is giving some kickback to it’s LucasFilm roots by paying homage to one of the most popular characters.
This actually wouldn’t be the first time Verizon has done this… what with having the Droid name (copyrighted by LucasFilm), they also sent around some remote controlled R2-D2′s around select media outlets during the launch of the original Droid.
