Android saves Q2 profit for Sony Ericsson

Android has a history of taking dying brands and manufacturers, and offering them a walk through the land of milk and honey, and it looks like Sony Ericsson is no exception.

That’s right, Sony Ericsson. While there was a long stint of Sony Ericsson having less-than-optimal earnings quarter over quarter, they have released their Q2 2010 results… which show them doing better than they have been for awhile. And who are they thanking? Android.

To be more specific, SE is pointing a grateful finger to the Sony Xperia X10 and the Vivaz for their pull from the valley. Sony Ericsson is also putting many eggs in the rest of their X10 line’s basket, which includes the X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro, in hopes that they can continue moving up the mountain in Q3.

Just look at the amazing turnaround that motorola is experiencing. I had all but given up on both Sony Ericsson and Motorola, and now both are back in the running. More than anything Android has opened the market for more competition from otherwise defunct companies.

BTW, Vivaz is a Symbian platform, not Android.

It seems that the story should be two open platforms are saving SonyEricsson – not just one.

They have to move away from the resistive screen because there are much better alternatives.
