There are so many reasons to fall in love with the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus – let me count the ways. A huge 4.65″ HD Super Amoled display, Android 4.0, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, LTE, barometer, 1 GB of RAM, wait…. barometer?!! Yes you read correctly, barometer. Apparently Samsung isn’t including a barometer in the Galaxy Nexus for the latest in personal weather-forecast information, but for something even more practical, GPS location.
Android engineer, Dan Morrill, hit the interweb explaining Samsung’s reasoning for adding such tool to their latest incarnation. According to Morrill’s Google+ account, Sammy added the barometer to help the device more rapidly acquire a GPS lock by delivering altitude coordinates to the required latitude and longitude GPS equation. I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to having this technology in my next handset. My last 2 devices had a hell of a time locking on to a solid GPS signal, making navigation an often avoided feature. I truly hope that the addition of a barometer resolves this widespread complaint, all we need now is a freakin’ U.S. release date!
Hit the link below to see Morrill’s sometimes comical Google+ thread and let us know if this is a feature that you too are looking forward to.
