Which is more durable?: Samsung Galaxy S II or Apple iPhone 4S

The folks over at SquareTrade did a drop test to see which smartphone is more durable: The Samsung Galaxy S II or the Apple iPhone 4S. They have 3 catagories which include a drop from waist high, shoulder high, and face down. Ironically both phones seemed to perform better from shoulder height as opposed to waist high.

The real story is the face down test as there is a clear hands-down winner. I am not sure if it’s enough information to sway Apple or Android fans on deciding their next purchase, but if you are someone who is more clumsy, you might have to consider it.

Not having youtube access at work, the results of the test not being in the article makes it pretty much useless :(

For the above comment, both sides of the iPhone smash. The Galaxy S2 holds together much better than you’d expect and doesn’t crack or smash.

Isn’t the Galaxy S II cheap plastic and isn’t the iPhone 4S glass? Hmmmmm…I wonder which one would hold up to being dropped. Slow news day.

Why not report on how Samsung and HTC are being handed their collective asses in the courtroom over patent disputes…oh that’s right, it shines a negative light on Android.

      JimD,

We have run numerous stories about the legal battles between Apple, Microsoft, Oracle, Samsung, HTC, and others. Tell us which story we missed.

  • JimD

    Well…today’s story:

ITC judge finds Apple did not violate four HTC patents

This one from the other day:

Samsung loses on Apple ban in the Netherlands

I’m sure if you do a google search, you will see what I’m talking about.

Oh, and for the record, I currently use the HTC Thunderbolt. But, I also have the iPhone 4S. I like switching back and forth…they both have their advantages. I’m saying this before someone says I’m an Apple fanboy.

Well. The iPhone does have glass all the way out to the corners. Glass is a lot more vulnerable at edges so… I think this really is a design over function kinda thing. Depends on what you prioritize. :)

Just the result I was hoping for :) LOL

    Hey JimD

Why not report on how Apple cant even invent anything…They just buy all the good stuff from people integrate it together and sell it for exceptional prices…Tell me one thing that apple has invented please dont say multitouch because they havent(google it noob) oh yeah Siri!!…oh no even that is also bought…A company that was trying to patent the rectangle shouldnt even be allowed to produce phones and tablets…Fucking money minters!!

  • baskus

It is kind of widely known that big companies seldom innovate… Except for Google ofc. They built Android! Oh, wait…

@Simbak2k thanks for telling us ‘cuz I can’t view YouTube videos at work either. Please consider this next time, authors. Thank you.

    Oh, and Samsung FTW.

Btw, since when could u drop an iPhone and it didn’t shatter? All the ones I’ve known have. But I’ve also seen a Evo 4G catch a bad one too. R.I.P. Lol

This doesn’t change the fact that my SGS2 has only a couple months and it already has much more scratches than my Samsung i8910 had after the same time…
    Gorilla %@%!@ Glass :]

I have been using Iphone 4S for a month now. It’s protective glass is not as weak as portrayed in the video. I have accidentally dropped it several times on the floor and my tables but still the front and back havent shown any signs of cracks or scratches.
