Archos explains why G9 Tablets are missing Dual 1.5 GHz CPU’s

Archos posted a statement on their Facebook page explaining the status of the two G9 Tablets which were originally said to come equipped with 1.5 GHz dual-core processors. Earlier this week the 80G9 was released only to sport a 1 GHz processor. The faster of the two, the “Turbo”, will instead come with a 1.2 GHz chip  and should be available at the end of October. Archos is blaming “delays” from Texas Instruments as the reason we aren’t seeing the faster OMAP dual-core chips and will most likely not see the new units until some time in 2012.

Wow, loads of questions from you guys….
To make it all clearer I’ve put up another post with answers to (hopefully) all your questions.

First of all on the processor:
At the beginning with the G9 tablets we’ve being following the Texas Instruments roadmap for their amazing OMAP4 processor. Unfortunately there have been some delays, in pushing it to its max. So we’ve decided to release:

Now: 1GHz versions (in stores as “Standard” – this is the one on sale now in the ARCHOS Store)
End of October: 1.2GHz versions (in stores as “Turbo”)
Start of 2012, when it’s properly signed off by R&D: 1.5GHz versions (again as “Turbo”, these will replace the 1.2 versions in the stores and be at the same price)

The differences of 1 to 1.2 and finally to 1.5GHz are on a hardware level and not a software level.

They better explain why their former tablets (like Archos 70) still don’t have honeycomb, while they promised to give us that when buying in december 2010.
