DROID X update to fix keyboard is now live

Last last week, it came to our attention that a new update was ready for the DROID X, and it looks like it is rolling right now. A few of you have written to me letting me know you go the update, but unfortunately it’s not available to me yet. You can check your phone by going to Menu/Settings/About Phone/System Updates to see if you can manually pull it.

This update will bring you to build 4.5.605.MB810.Verizon.en.US, and the only fix is keyboard stability and usability issues. It wasn’t a problem for all, but I know many of you were complaining about it. Please let us know if you were able to get it.

Thanks Greg and Tom

Typing on this phone with froyo was a dream but ever since GB its been a hassle. It would often crash the phone and was just a buggy mess. Hopefully though this fixes the lag. Often I’ll type quicker than the phone can interpret and it will fail to autocorrect to catch up and miss words. I just hope it speeds up as it was literally my favorite keyboard on a touch screen phone under froyo, bating out the excellent iPhone board in my books… not so much anymore… hopefully this helps that.

Took the update and re-rooted with Droid 3 easy root script v7.

Confirmed I did NOT lose root after this update.

This also fixed car dock + AUX jack speaker phone bug

I have the new update, now it will not let me choose a group setting for sending messages. If you take a picture then try to choose a group to send it to the option is GONE. You have to choose individuals to send it to. Is there a way around this or an update?

The Droid functions MUCH faster however…

Everything IS faster but since I’ve updated my battery has drained a lot faster too.

Got the update about 4pm today on the Droid X, noticed the darker features, improved home button navigation, keyboard is good, I use swype anyway. Good the hear the phone jack/speaker bug fix, but didn’t see any mention of a fix in the reports.

My droid updated this morning. while it seems to run faster, it drains my battery in about 6 hrs of casual use. I would typically get 16-18 hrs of use. I poked around the various settings and nothing seems amiss, so I am stumped as to why the upgrade is a battery hog

Fixed my Gallery that broke about 6 months ago the day after I got the phone. It would always just exit as soon as it was opened.

Mine updated too. As others have mentioned, the battery now runs out in less than 8 hours-previously I could go 24. The darker features make it VERY hard to see…now I have to put my glasses on to use my phone. Facebook was running VERY slow when it first upgraded, but it seems to be fine now. Slacker radio on the other hand now crashes after every third or fourth song.
