Being a huge RGP fan myself, this is some awesome news and a step in the right direction for mobile gaming in my opinion. Square Enix over at the Tokyo Game Show has been dropping a handful of title names that will be coming to Android. First up, Final Fantasy I will be coming in 2012 under the name Final Fantasy: Legends. There isn’t a lot of details at the moment on this game other than the screenshot above, but let’s cross our fingers that this won’t be a Japan only release.
Next up is one of my favorite classic RPGs and possibly one of the best of all time, Chrono Trigger. This little jem hit the Super Nintendo system in 1995 and was created by what Square dubbed as their “Dream Team”. Since then it’s hit a number of different platforms and most recently to the Wii virtual console. Let’s hope though that this is not just a port with joystick controls on screen, but also a touch experience within the battle modes.
One last bit of news is that Square Enix will be launching their own Android Marketplace in Japan. This is coming later this year and includes titles like Final Fantasy I and II, Chaos Rings, and Crystal Defenders. Let’s hope to see this venture outside of Japan as well. Anyone else excited? Let’s just hope this is a step in the right direction for more original and great RPG titles to hid Android. If anyone can make that happen, it’s Square Enix.
