The guys over at Engadget have confirmed, and tested, the HTC Sync program coming out for the HTC Aria does indeed allow loading 3rd party apps. AT&T and HTC had stated that slideloading was not going to be included in the Sync program, so expect it to be updated and removed soon. In case they do you might want to grab it while you can before you are locked out.

Once installed you can load up those 3rd party apps such as Swype via your USB cable and off you go. Stay tuned here If anything changes we will let you know.

I just ordered the Aria and should have it within a few days. I’m downloading Sync now, just in case, but the user guide for the phone states that loading apps through Sync is an option. There’s a section in the User Guide titled “Installing apps from your computer to your phone.” Before the instructions, it states:

“If you have applications (.apk files) on your computer, you can use HTC Sync to install them to your phone. We strongly recommend you install only applications that you trust.”

Yea but officially from HTC and AT&T it is not supposed to work as AT&T wants their phones locked out from installing 3rd party APK files.
