Motorola Photon 4G software updates laid out by Sprint

In order for your Android phone to run in optimal condition it is wise to be sure that you have all the latest software updates downloaded to your device. For those of you who own a Motorola Photon 4G, we have compiled a guide directly from Sprint explaining recent updates and how to be sure that you have them installed correctly.

Most recent software updates:

9/14/11 – Adjustments to Wi-Fi functionality.

8/23/11 – Improvements to voice calling to eliminate inadvertent voice calls defaulting to mute.

– Improve stability, resulting in fewer occurrences of unresponsiveness.

– Bluetooth support for mono headsets with the Sprint Visual Voicemail application.

Important Notes:

  • Updates are released in stages. If you do not receive a notification on your device immediately or your device indicates no updatesare available, please check back later
  • Updates take approximately 5-15 minutes to download and install. You may be unable to make or receive calls during the update
  • Ensure the battery on the device is charged to at least 50% or connect the device to a charger before beginning the udpate
  • If available, connect to Wi-Fi or 4G to apply the update
  • Your phone may power off and back on to complete the software update

Update your software:

  1. Software will be automatically downloaded to your phone
  2. A notification will be sent to the device prompting the user to download and install the update
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to apply the update

OR

  1. On the Home screen, press Menu
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Scroll up and tap About Phone
  4. Tap System Updates > Update Motorola Software
  5. Your phone will check for available updates
  6. If there is an update available, you will be prompted to download and install it; follow the on-screen instructions
  7. If there are no updates available, you will see a message stating your phone is up to date; tap OK
  8. Press Home to return to the Home screen

Check the version on your phone

  1. On the Home screen, press Menu
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Scroll up and tap About phone
  4. Scroll up and the software version is displayed under Build number
  5. Press Home to return to the Home screen
